Medellín - Best city of Colombia

Medellín... What I've already heard about this city before coming here? For sure most of it was because of Pablo Escobar, especially from the series Narcos. Once it was the most violent city in the world! But this is the past and the city changed a lot! The homocide rate for example has decreased by 95% and the poverty rate by 66%! Medellín is all but dangerous. The Colombian people, especially the Paisas (people who are coming from the department of Antioquia) are ashamed of this legacy and they don't like to be in the minds of everybody just because of Pablo Escobar. One guy told me, for him it would be like for us Germans and our history. Sure you can't compare this, but I understood what he meant. 

The city itself has a special vibe. You feel safe, welcomed, the weather is good, there is a lot to see, good places to go out, many vegetarian and vegan restaurants, a good public transportation with its metro and the cable cars going up the hill and its poorer neighborhoods, which helped them a lot being better integrated to the rest of the city. 

In total we spend a week in Medellín. We have visited the Comuna 13 with its beautiful graffitis, some museums where Botero (the most known artist of Colombia, who is coming from Medellín) is always present, parks and places. We had a lot of fun partying with new friends and having really good conversations. Thanks to you guys: Mauro, Andrea, Laura, Laurent and especially Alesha! 

I really recommend visiting Medellín! To summarize it: nice vibe, nice people, nice weather, nice city! I'm out!
