"Wahrheit oder Licht?" und quer durch Chicago!

Der 22. Oktober bricht an und damit nähern wir uns auch schon in großen Schritten dem Ende unseres Schüleraustausches. Und ja, das hier ist der 2. Eintrag für den 22., aber es war ja schließlich auch viel los heute!

Mein Tag begann nämlich auch schon deutlich früher als gewöhnlich. So wurde ich um halb 2 in der Nacht durch eine Runde "Wahrheit oder Lich" geweckt: antworte oder werde geblendet! Ich war nicht der einzige der davon leicht genervt war, deswegen wurden nach einer weiteren stunde voller willkürlicher Gesprächsthemen alle Lampen wieder ausgestattet und wir haben alle noch ein wenig Schlaf bekommen.

Weiter ging es dann mit dem Frühstück, das zwar von 7 - 9 Uhr geöffnet war, vor 8 aber nicht viel von unserer Anwesenheit mitbekommen hat. Sichtlich müde gab es also ein kleines Buffet bestehend aus Bagels, Cinnamon Rolls, Cornflakes und vieles mehr.

Der Terminkalender war jedoch voll, deswegen ging es schon 9:30 weiter. Zu Fuß ging es bis zum Trump Tower, wo wir unsere Hop-on Hop-off Bustour gegen kurz nach 10 gestartet haben. Innerhalb von 2 Stunden wurden uns hier diverse Sehenswürdigkeiten und deren Hintergründe präsentiert. Etwas verwirrt war ich anfangs, da es 2 Reiseführer gab, einen mehr oder minder geschwätzigen Busfahrer und einen Audioguide mit Kopfhörern. Ich entschied mich für zweiteres.

Nachdem wir also an Orten wie "the bean", dem Stadion "Soldiers Field" und dem "Navy Pier" (und vielen weiteren) vorbeigekommen waren, sind wir an der letzten der 11 Haltestellen ausgestiegen und haben nach einem kurzen Blick in ein Hardrock Café erstmal ein paar Burger und Starbucks Kaffee geholt. Dann ging es noch einmal zurück auf den Bus und wir sind die Runde zu Ende bis zum Trump Tower gefahren, von wo aus wir zu Fuß noch einmal einen genaueren Blick auf die Bohne geworfen haben. In diesem riesigen Metallgebilde spiegelte sich nicht nur man selbst, sondern auch die ganze Skyline von Chicago!

Dann ging es zurück ans Shoppen, auch wenn die Koffer bereits alle randvoll sind! Auf dem Rückweg zum Hotel wurde dann hier und dort mal bei ein paar weiteren Läden angehalten und nach einem schnellen Zwischenstopp bei einem Pizza-Restaurant um die Ecke war die Zeit auch schon reif für das Abendprogramm!

Hier musste man wählen zwischen einem NBA Spiel (Basketball) der Chicago Bulls, oder einem amerikanischen Klassiker, dem Musical "Wicked". Ich habe mich der Minderheit angeschlossen und bin mit grade mal 3 weiteren Schülern und einer Lehrerin zum Musical "Wicked" gegangen. Nach einem Fußmarsch von grade einmal 15 Minuten waren wir auch schon im Theater, wo hunderte Menschen bereits in der Schlange standen. Hier wurde uns auf atemberaubende Weise die Vorgeschichte zum Klassiker "Der Zauberer von Oz" erzählt in Form von Tanz, Musik und unfassbar viel Witz - 2:25h voller Spannung und Emotion!! Dieses Stück muss man einfach gesehen haben, da worte einfach nicht ausreichen, muss ich einfach weiterempfehlen!

Den Abend ließen wir dann noch gemütlich mit ein Paar Runden Billiard und Tischtennis im Aufenthaltsraum des Hostels ausklingen.

Zusammengefasst auf jeden Fall einer der Ereignisreichsten Tage dieser Reise! Und obwohl ich hier wirklich Spaß habe freue ich mich doch schon darauf zuhause wieder ohne Wahrheit oder Licht schlafen gehen zu können, aber bis dahin genießen wir Chicago noch etwas und liefern hoffentlich noch ein paar spannende Erlebnisse für diesen Blog!

"Truth or flare?" and straight through Chicago!

It's the 22nd of October and the end of our school exchange comes closer and closer. And yes, this is the 2nd blogentry for today but to be honest, a lot happened today!

My day started a little earlier than usual when I woke up at around 1:30am to a round of the game "Truth or flare": answer the question or feel the power of many lamps right in your face while you try to sleep! But since I wasn't the only one that was pretty annoyed by this, we managed to get the lights out an hour later, after a lot of talking about the most random topics. So we at least got some sleep.

The breakfast was the first point on today's list and although it was open from 7 to 9 am, nobody got to see anything of us until about 8am. Obviously tired we went down to the buffet consisting of Bagels, Cinnamon Rolls, Cornflakes and more. Not much of a break afterwards because we walked to the Trump Tower where we started our hop-on-hop-off bus tour at around 10:10. Within 2 hours of driving around we saw lots of lots of sights and attractions ans learned about their history and backstories. I was a little confused at first since we had to choose from one of two tour guides: a more or less talkative bus driver and digital audio guide with headphones. I chose the second option.

After we drove past sights like "the bean", the stadium known as "Soldiers Field" and the "Navy Pier" (and more), we got off the bus at the last of the 11 bus stops and after a short visit to the nearby Hardrock Café we got ourselves some burgers and Starbucks. We then took the bus back to the fist stop, the Trump Tower, from where we went and visited "the bean" by foot. This gigantic construct, made out of reflecting metal and shaped like a big bean (hence the name), didn't just reflect oneself but also the entire Chicago Skyline!

We continued our journey by stopping by several stores on our way back to the hotel. We grabbed some pizza right around the corner and then it was time for the evening program.

Here we had to choose between an NBA game (basketball) of the Chicago Bulls or the classical american musical "Wicked", the prequel to the universal classic "the wizard of Oz". The minority - that's just me, three other students and a teacher - went to the musical. I took us just a nice 15 minute walk to get to the theater, where hundreds of people were already waiting in line! The breathtaking way in which the prequel to "the wizard of Oz" is presented, the dancing, the singing and the unbelievably hilarious jokes - 2:25 full of action and emotion. A must-see because words are simply not enough! Defenetly recommended!

The night came to an end with a few nice rounds of pool and table-tennis in the lobby of our hostel.

All in all one of - if not the - most eventful days of this whole trip. And although I really like it and I'm having a lot of fun, I'm really looking forward to being at home, sleeping in my own bed and NOT playing Truth or Flare, but until then we'll enjoy the time we've got left in Chicago and hopefully get a few more funny and entertaining stories for this blog!
