Moinsen! 😃

Was man nicht alles mitmacht.

_________________________________

Hey there! 😃

Since it’s a holiday today and I really don’t feel like doing any work for college (or my thesis), I figured I’d take a little time to give you all a quick update.

As some of you already know, I went back to visit my parents in Africa from early to mid-March. It was a dream come true to write my thesis in such warm weather. In Namibia, I conducted my third study on the topic of friendship & AI.

But I didn’t just spend my time analyzing data and writing (by the way—I never thought I’d need math again😂); I also got to be a part of my parents’ lives. One weekend, for example, I went with the Bible study group to a farm east of Windhoek. That same weekend, a friend from Germany visited me with his brother and his friend. We started by showing the three of them around Windhoek. 😄

The following weekend, we went on another trip down south and visited various farms where we held church services. At one point, we broke down in the middle of nowhere because the van’s clutch had failed. It was sweltering in the midday sun at 30 degrees Celsius, and we had terrible cell service. 🥵 And yeah, that’s when I got a little sunburn. When a tour bus full of French people came toward us, the tour guides told us we absolutely shouldn’t keep driving. Even while we were driving, it smelled like—I don’t know what—and it just didn’t look good. They couldn’t help us, but they let the people in the town we’d come from know. Shortly after, a couple drove by in a Jeep. They towed our van to another farm. There, we were picked up again by the owners of the farm we’d originally come from. But since there was only room for 5 people in the car and there were 6 of us, I had to sit in the “trunk” of the car. The things you have to go through. 🙈😂 So there I was, sitting among all the luggage on a tire with a cushion on top. Back at the farm, they lent us one of their cars so we could continue our tour. However, it was already too late to drive any further, so we stayed another night at the guest farm. The entire southern tour went all the way down to Lüderitz. On the way back, we spent one more night in Keetmanshoop, where the beautiful quiver trees stand. It was absolutely gorgeous in the evening sun! ☀️🌅

Time flew by way too quickly, and after the southern tour, I noticed I had less motivation to work on my bachelor’s thesis. By the way, it’s officially registered now. So I have until June 25. Since I produced a practical project (a podcast), thank goodness I only have to write 20 pages. Since I’m not much of a “writer”—especially when it comes to academic papers—this works out perfectly for me. 😁😉 Have I already had my first crisis? Yeees! Right at the start… I had no idea how to even begin the thesis. Now I’m in the thick of it and really have to stick to the word count limit. But I’d like to turn it in as early as May. We’ll see if that works out. 😬 I’m not going to stress myself out, though.

After returning from Africa, I started to sketch out a rough plan in my head for how best to tackle my bachelor’s thesis. I came to the following conclusion: I want to get a little bit done every day and celebrate small milestones so I don’t feel like I’m not making any progress. So far, it’s working out pretty well. Then I’ll work on a chapter or do some research. My goal is to also have time each day to do something else enjoyable, like cooking, baking, working in the garden (I’m currently planting vegetables again in little seedling pots), hanging out with a friend, or simply spending time in God’s Word. Sometimes a woman from my church stops by and brings me lunch. It’s so sweet of her to think of me. 🥹

At the end of February, I ran a poll on Instagram asking what else you’d like to see here. Most of you voted for “Personal Thoughts and Feelings.” I’d like to go along with that and give you a little glimpse into my emotional world when it comes to “dating.” Admittedly, I just don’t understand the dating world these days anymore. From getting-to-know-you phases that drag on for months without anything concrete coming of them, to the saying “The one I want, I can’t get, and the one who wants me, I don’t want”—it’s been really frustrating for me over the last few years, to the point where I don’t even feel like dating anymore. Especially in this area, I can trust that God has good intentions for me and won’t forget me. Why am I bringing this up right now? Because it’s on my mind, and I’d like to understand why it’s so difficult today to commit and take responsibility.

Now, here are my thoughts on the current gas prices. 🫣 I think we all agree that it’s really outrageous now that a liter costs over €2. Last week I was out and about near my aunt’s place, right on the border with the Czech Republic, and there I filled up for €1.78 a liter. Just a few weeks ago, that would have been considered expensive in Germany. Especially as a student, you don’t find price hikes like this funny. It is what it is. In the Czech Republic, there was also a small, idyllic lake nearby. That was a really nice little detour. 🥰

That brings me to the topic of my future. Regarding work: Starting in May, I’ll be switching from a part-time job to a working student position. That means I’ll be working 20 hours a week instead of 10. Regarding my studies: I’m currently planning to start a master’s in media production in October. The application period for that begins on May 2, 2026. I think I mentioned this in my last blog post as well. But here, too, I want to let God guide me. I always look at it this way: If it’s meant to be, it will work out, and if not, then it’s not meant to be. Even then, God has a better plan. We can rely on that.

That He has a plan for us humans is something He shows us especially today—on Good Friday. For many, it’s just a tradition. For me, it’s a day when I consciously reflect on all the good He has done for me. We humans are fallible and make mistakes, and we couldn’t stand before God as we are. Through His death on the cross and the forgiveness of our sins, He paves the way to the Lord so that we can live in a relationship with Him. ✝️

I wish you all a blessed Easter and moments of reflection where you can ponder the meaning of these days. 💭🌷☀️

See you in the next blog post! Hopefully, I’ll have turned in my bachelor’s thesis by then. 😃✌🏻
