First days in Lima

Veröffentlicht: 12.01.2017

"Welcome to Lima, Peru" I got welcomed from the guy who picked me up from the airport. We drove through the dark and a little scary Lima for about 20 mins until he dropped me of at my hostel the 1900 Backpackers Hostel. I pretty much only fell into bed there. After a good night's sleep, I started my Lima Sightseeing Tour. I got picked up by the tour guide with an UBER driver and we tried to make our way through the crowded streets. Apparently Lima is the city with the third most traffic in South America - after Rio and Bogota, I believe to remember. Well anyhow, we made our way to Miraflores, which is the suburb for the richer ones, with a nice costal line. After that, we stopped at the impressive adobe and clay pyramid Huaca Pucllana. Then, we went to discover the historic centre for a while, but since it was a little hard being on a bus, I decided to go on a second walking tour (organised by my hostel) in the afternoon. The historic centre has many sights to visit, which clearly show the Spanish / European influence in Lima. Some of us exchanged some money on the street - at apparently better rates than banks can offer. Also, we saw the fountain in front of the Government Palace, which gets filled with Pisco Sour - the National Cocktail - on the 28th of July every year, which marks Peru's Independence Day. Must be truly a day to be here. Well maybe another time. During lunch hours, I learned how to make Ceviche - the National Dish - from scratch, by first visiting a local market and buying the ingredients like fish, limes, ginger, onions, coriander, chili, milk, garlic and sweet potatoes and beans as side dish. It was DELICIOUS!!! So, unfortunately I had only one day in Lima - but it was pretty much a full on one. There are many more things to see but I got a really good first impression of the city with its delicious food and friendly people. Next Paracas ...
