Wir packten unsere Sachen und verliessen das Knusperhäuschen, den Regenwald und das nieselnde Wetter. Zwischenstopp im, uns liebgewonnenen Hilo, für ein super Bio Lunch. Die Amis sind Profis in Fast Food, aber wenn man gut hinschaut, gibt’s viele coole Bio Shops, Kaffee’s und Restaurants und die sind richtig gut! Danach gings zum open air Flughafen und ab nach Kauai. Neues Auto, neues Heim. Diesmal sind wir in einem Hotel/Apartment mit Aussicht zum Meer. Es gefällt uns sehr gut hier mit einer Küche, Wohnzimmer, separates Schlafzimmer, mehrere Pools und Jacuzzis und viele Restaurants, Hotels und Geschäfte rundherum. Das Wetter ist sehr angenehm – nicht zu warm, nicht zu kalt, ein bisschen windig und sehr, sehr grün. Das kleine Städtchen heisst Kapaa und ist sehr Alternativ, Bio und Hawaii tiefenentspannt, eine Kombi die uns sehr anspricht. Nachdem wir «Things to do» in Kauai studiert hatten, machten wir uns auf und schlenderten durch Kapaa das voll von kleinen Geschäften, Restaurants und Kaffees ist. In einem Geschäft mieteten wir ein Fahrrad und fuhren einen Radweg dem Strand entlang mit Wow Effekt. Gukstdu Bilder. Diese Art von Sport sagte uns sehr zu. Nach 10Km und ein paar Schweisstropfen hier und da, hüpften wir ins Meer und genossen den Nachmittag. Später fuhren wir zu den Opaeka’a Falls ca 3Km weiter entfernt. Ein 46m hohen, dreigeteilten Wasserfall. Sehr schön. Es gab da noch einen weiteren Lookout den ich anpeilen wollte. Überall in Hawaii gibt es wirklich viele wilde Hühner. Speziell bei diesem Lookout. Es sind hawaiianische Hühner und dementsprechend tiefenentspannt. Mit ca 5Kmh fuhr ich auf den Parkplatz und da gabs so ein Huhn das echt nicht in Eile war. Ich fuhr langsam, langsam weiter und nahm an dass das Huhn sich langsam, langsam vom Weg wegbewegen würde. Man kommt dann an den Punkt wo man das Huhn nicht mehr sieht.. war es rechts weggelaufen- ich hatte nichts gesehen, oder duckte es sich und wartet zwischen den Rädern oder ist es etwa unter den Rädern??? Zoe die eh schon langsam zum Vegi mutiert (ausser ein Wolfgangs ist in der Nähe…) fing an zu hyperventilieren. Auf einmal drehten sich alle Hühner auf dem Parkplatz auf Kommando um – es waren ca 100 – kein Scheiss! und rannten in unsere Richtung! Hatte ich das Huhn erwischt und rennen nun die Kamikaze Verwandten auf uns zu um es zu rächen? Hitchcocks «die Vögel» kam mir in Sinn…. Zoe nun ausser Rand und Band: «Fahr, schnell Mam faaaaaahrrrrrr!» Check in Rückspiegel – da war kein plattes Huhn, alles gut aber keine Ahnung was die 100 Hühner ritt. Leider war ich nicht geistesgegenwärtig genug um noch schnell ein Foto zu machen, aber die Situation war Skurril/Lustig 😊 Das schrie natürlich nach einem Mai Tai um das Adrenalin wieder zu nivellieren, was immer funktioniert.

We packed our things and left the gingerbread house, the rain forest and the drizzle weather. Pit stop at our favorite town Hilo for a great organic Lunch. The Americans are masters in fast food, but when you look carefully, there are a lot of cool organic shops, coffee shops and restaurants which are really good! Thereafter we proceeded to the open air airport and off to Kauai. New car, new home. This time we are in a Hotel/apartment with sea view. We like it very much here with a kitchen, a living room a separate Bedroom a few swimming pools and Jacuzzis with loads of Restaurants, Hotel and shops closed by. The weather is really pleasant – not too hot, not to cold, a bit windy and very, very green. The little town is called Kapaa and is very alternative, organic and Hawaiian deep-relaxed a combination which we really like. We studied “things to do” in Kauai and then hit the town of Kapaa which is full of small shops, Restaurants and coffeeshops. In a shop we rented bikes and rode a bike path alongside the shore with wow effect – see pics. After about 10Km and a few sweat drops here and there, we dipped into to sea and enjoyed the afternoon. Later we drove to the Opakea’a falls about 3Km further down. It’s a 46m high, three stream waterfall. Very pretty. There was a further Lookout I wanted to stop on. Everywhere in Hawaii are a lot of wild chickens. Specifically at this lookout. They are Hawaiian chickens and therefore seriously relaxed. With about 5Kmh I drove on the parking lot and there was this one chicken which wasn’t in a hurry at all. I drove slowly, slowly and assumed that the chicken would move itself slowly, slowly away from the path. One gets to the point where you don’t see the chicken anymore…. Did it move to the right – which I didn’t see, or did it duck and waited between the wheels, or was it under the wheels??? Zoe by now nearly a vegetarian (unless there is a Wolfgangs nearby) started to hyperventilate. Suddenly all chickens on the parking lot, as if there was a commando – they were about 100 – no kidding, turned around and ran towards our direction! All at once all together! Did I run over the chicken and now all the kamikaze relatives are vindicating it? Hitchcock’s “birds” came to my mind. Zoe totally flipping out: “drive Mum drrrrriiiiiiveeee”! Check on the rear mirror – no flat chicken anywhere, but no idea what the 100 chickens problem was. Unfortunately I was not quick-witted enough to take a pic, but the situation was surreal/funny 😊 the situation cried out for a Mai Tai to nutralize the adrenalin levels – it always works.
