21. Tag - day 21 (for english scroll down)

Langsam verliere ich den Überblick von Zeit und vor allem wie lange ich noch so rumtreiben darf. Aber keine Bange, da holt mich Zoe schnell wieder runter auf den Boden der Realität und kann mir auf die Minute sagen wie lange es noch geht. Ein (ihr?) Freund (so genau wissen wir es noch nicht) kommt nach Maui, genau an dem Tag an dem ich Abreise. Sie haben einen Countdown timer eingerichtet wie lange es noch geht bis sie sich sehen, um dann einen Monat gemeinsam auf der Insel zu verbringen…. Oder auch: das stille Leiden der Elena B. 😉

Also, heute wurde gepackt und aus der Villa Kunterbunt gezogen. Die Reise führte uns in Osten von Big Island, genauer nach Hilo Airport wo wir ein Helikopterflug gebucht hatten. Einmal über die Vulkane zwecks Einstimmung für Morgen. Das war echt supi. Man sieht soooo viel von Oben und bekommt einen perfekten Überblick über Grösse, Ausmass und das brodelnde Magma!

Der Kilauea Vulkan speit nicht mehr, aber er brodelt so vor sich her was uns sehr recht war. Es ist so Eindrücklich diese Naturkräfte zu sehen die unseren Planeten von Anbeginn an Formten und wie stärkere Gewalten die Kontrolle übernehmen. Ich fühlet mich unglaublich geerdet, was man von Zoe nicht so sagen konnte. Sie hatte ca. 10 Schattierungen von Grün im Gesicht und mehrere Loopings im Bauch . Zurück am Boden gings weiter zu unserer Unterkunft im Volcano Forest Inn, das Schwesterhaus von der vorherigen Villa Kunterbunt… Das scheint der Tenor hier zu sein. Man sagt, dass es in dieser Gegend gut und gerne 360 Tage im Jahr regnet, das ist nur noch nicht bei Kuoni angekommen. Ich kann bestätigen dass wir nicht in den 5 regenfreien Tagen sind. Abgesehen von der Feuchtigkeit ist es arschkalt (sorry)!!! Die New Yorker Ausrüstung, die wir zuunterst im Koffer verstaut hatten, musste wieder raus, Jacke, Kappe, Schal – das volle Programm. Das Regenwald -Dörfchen Volcano Village, hat ein Bio Laden, ein Caffee und etwa 10 Art-centers. Das ist uns schon früher aufgefallen – es hat mehr Kunstgeschäfte hier auf Hawaii als Bar’s in Italien! Ehrlich – der Wahnsinn – wer kauft bitteschön so viele Bilder?!?! Am Abend sind wir in den nahegelegenen Hawaii Volcanoes National Park gefahren und habe da im Volcano House Hotel Restaurant gegessen mit Aussicht auf den Krater – die Kombination von dem Dunklen der Nacht und dem rot des Lavas – unvergesslich.

I start to loose the overview of time and how much longer I can hang around. But not to worry, Zoe is taking me quickly down to reality and can tell me down to the minute exactly how much longer I can stay. A (her?) friend (we don’t have the details yet) is coming to Maui, exactly on the day I am leaving. They have set up a countdown timer how long it will take until they see each other, to then spend a month on the island together… or: the silent suffering of Elena B. 😉

Today we packed our stuff and moved out of Villa Villekulla. The journey took us to the east of Big Island, more precise to Hilo Airport where we booked a helicopter ride. Once over the volcanoes to get into the groove for tomorrow. That was really special. There is so much to see from above and one gets a perfect overview on the size, impact and the bubbling magma! The Kilauea Volcano isn’t spewing anymore but its bubbling, which was perfectly fine with us. It is so impressive to see this natural forces which formed our Planet from the beginning and the force majeure take control. I felt thoroughly grounded, Zoe not so much. She had about 10 shades of green in her face and multiple looping’s in her stomach . Back on ground we proceeded to our next lodging: the Volcano Forest Inn, the sister-house of Villa Villekulla… seems to be the tenor here. They say that in this area it is likely to rain on 360 days a year, unfortunately that wasn’t conveyed to my travel agent. I can confirm that we are currently not in the 5 rain free days. Beside the humidity it is bloody cold (sorry)! We had to dig out the New York outfits to keep warm: Jacket, cap, scarf – the full monty. The rainforest village “Volcano Village” has a organic shop, a coffee shop and about 10 art centers. It did strike us earlier already – there are more art galleries here in Hawaii than bars in Italy! Really – its crazy – who is buying all this art we wonder?!?. In the evening we went to the nearby Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and dined in the Volcano House Hotel Restaurant with view on the Volcano and it’s red lava display. It was an amazing view – the combination of the night darkness and the red of the lava – unforgettable.
