20. Tag - day 20 (for english scroll down)

Heute war Rimini feeling. Eigentlich wollten wir ja auf den Mount Maunakea auf 4205 MüM. Anscheinend ist da die Himmelsbeobachtung optimal, die Luft ist klar, trocken und es gibt nur wenige störende Lichtquellen dafür aber zahlreiche Observatorien und ein Astronauten Trainingslager! Rauflaufen ist für Lenchen keine Option. Es gibt geführte Touren die einem bis ganz rauf mit SUV’s fahren. Dauert ca 8 Stunden fahrt um ca. 1 Stunde Sonnenaufgang respektive Sonnenuntergang in Daunenjacke, Mütze, Handschuhen reinzuziehen. Schüttelbecher feeling inbegriffen, Sternenbeobachtung optional je nach Wolkenlage. Auch nicht so erquickend. Alternativ kann man auch mit dem eigenen Auto bist zum Visitor Center auf halben Weg fahren. Da hat es anscheinend ein tolles Astronomie Center. Das hätten wir gerne besucht. Leider haben die Sterne, die Galaxien und das Visitor Center Montags frei….Sapperlott. OK Alternativprogramm war dann «Beach day» sehr zur Freude von Zoe. Erst gings aber noch ein paar Totempfähle bei Honaunau-Napoopoo (diese Namen aber auch…) bewundern. Quintessenz: auch die Hawaiianischen Männer hatten Augenprobleme und haben gewisse Körperteile arg überschätzt 😉 Danach gings nach Kaloko-Honokohau (ich sags ja…) zu einem weissen Strand. Wunderschön gelegen mit ein paar Palmen, wenig Leuten und viel zu vielen Schildkröten – echt perfekt. Das Rimini feeling kam deshalb auf, weil man 20 Fuss von den Schildkröten Abstandhalten soll. Da waren aber so viele Schildkröten und nicht so viel Strand, dass wir schon fast ein bisschen zusammen ruckeln mussten, damit alle platzt hatten! Irgendwann knurrte auch der Magen und da das Lava Lava Beach Restaurant nicht weit weg war, wurden wir auch da zu Wiederholungstäter und genossen einen weiteren grossartigen Abend am Strand in der ersten Reihe und schauten der Sonne zu wie sie unterging und stellten uns vor wie sie gerade in diesem Moment bei euch drüben leicht rötlich aufgeht. Ach wat war dat schön!

Today we had the Rimini feeling. Originally we wanted to go up the Mount Maunakea at 4205 meters above sea level. Apparently the stargazing is optimal there, the air is clear, dry and there are hardly any disturbing light sources, but there are plenty of observatories and an astronaut training camp! Hiking wasn’t an option for me (surprise, surprise). There are guided tours which take you all the way to the top with a SUV. It takes approximately 8 hours’ drive to watch one hour sunset respectively sunrise in down jacket, hat, gloves. Shaker-feeling included, star spotting optional depending the clouds. Not really appealing either. Alternatively one can also drive with the own car to the visitor center half way up. Apparently there is a very cool astronomy center. That we would have loved to visit. Unfortunately the stars, galaxies and the visitor center are closed on Mondays….Bummer. OK Alternative-program was a beach day – much to Zoes joy. First we went to see a few totem poles at Honaunau-Napoopoo (theses names are doing my head in…) Quintessence: also the Hawaiian men’s had eye problems and heavily overrated/presented some body parts 😉 Thereafter we went to Kaloko-Honokohau (what can I say….) a white beach. Beautifully situated with a few palm trees, little people and far too many turtles – perfect! The Rimini feeling arouse because we had to keep 20 feet’s from the turtles. But there were so very many turtles and not so much beach, that we had to smush up to fit all! At one point our stomachs rumbled and we went back to the splendid Lava Lava beach restaurant where we were yesterday and enjoyed a further amazing evening on the beach in the front row, watching the sun set and imagining how it just arises, slightly red, over at your side. Men – that was so beautiful!
