Next stop: Nicaragua

Veröffentlicht: 01.05.2017

We drove from San Marcos to Antigua, which is a beautiful city in the central highlands of Guatemala. Its famous for its Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture and also for a number of ruins of colonial buildings.

Our actual plan was to stay a night and leave to Nicaragua the next day, but as we knew we didnt have much time left and a 2 a.m. bus would be heading to Leon (Nicaragua) we've decided to leave Antigua after just 12 hours.

The bus ride was heavy and took us 18 hours of sitting till every muscle of our bodies hurt. The boarder crossing took us from Honduras to Nicaragua around 3 hours and costed us 16 dollars. We knew we were being ripped off because the women who sold the bus tickets said it will cost us 11 $ but we didn't care much.

- although its very impressive how people can be so good at lying in your faces. If your a european|gringo tourist, dont expect to get treated fairly. ~ and no, this does not mean that there are only bad people outside.~

In Leon, we stayed in the Hostal las Vacaciones for 3 nights. From there we booked the volcano surfing tour on the Cerro Negro. It is pretty impressive and scary at the same time when you're ontop of this volcano and the tour guide tells you, that it is active and should have exploded over 10 years ago.

Looking good.

On the tour, we met a nice couple from Canada who said they will be going to the baseball game in Leon and if we would like to join them.

So we went to the game and were literally the only 4 tourists watching in an audience of locals.

It was one if the best experiences as we had and so much fun, also because the team of the town won and the vibe was amazing.

Baseballgame Leon

The next day:

we went to Granada, which is a city that reminded us so much of a spanish town. The colonial architecture, the streets and its restaurants made us feel like we were in Europe.

Granada is a very nice town but a little more expensive than Leon. At the end we liked Leon more because we felt like we were more part of the real Nicaragua.

In Granada we thought that it wouldn't be too bad to rent a car for a day....but where this story ended will be on my next update, because apparently renting a car can influence your journey more than you think....

I really appreciate you reading my blog and hope you can imagine just a little bit how beautiful this journey is.
