After leaving Santa Cruz on Wednesday evening, we drove into the night to get as close to Sequoia National Park as possible and camped. On Thursday (14.08.) we had breakfast in the van and unfortunately I started developing cold symptoms (mostly runny nose and stuffed sinuses). We entered the park and went on a little hike towards the General Grant Tree. I loved the landscape and those huge Sequoia trees are breathtaking. After that we moved on to also see the General Sherman Tree. With 84m high and 11m wide, it's one of the biggest trees in the world. It's also about 2200 years old. Standing under it looking up, you have the same perspective as a mouse, that looks up at a human. It was awe inspiring!
We then drove into the night again, to get to Brian's friend Aaron, who owns a house at the edge of Sequoia National Forest, high up in the mountains, in a place called Kennedy Meadows. Unfortunately we didn't make it there cause it took longer than expected and I was feeling really run down. So we camped at a little stream.
The next morning on Friday I was feeling a little better. We had a short dip in the stream and then drove to Aaron, were we were met with great hospitality. We made lunch, took showers and Brian worked on some van issues. More about our stay here will follow. 😁
