Today we are going back to the summit of Donden Mountain. Once we arrive there, we will pack some food and cleaning supplies and hike up the mountain again to tidy up and clean the emergency shelter where we also cleaned the lake last time. This time the weather is much better, and we have a beautiful view, being able to see all the way to the other side of Sado. The shelter is not messy, but it's quite dirty since no one really cleans it regularly, and dirt accumulates from the outside wind, animals, and peeling paint. Thankfully, due to the minimal furniture, it's easy to sweep the floor, and the ground floor gets cleaned up quickly. The upstairs is not particularly dirty, and after finding around 20 snake skins there, we decide to leave it as it is.
Once we finish, we sit in front of the shelter on the grass and have lunch with a breathtaking view. After we finish eating, we walk back to the mountain station. There is a film shoot planned there for a small "commercial" to encourage more people to vacation there. Two J-Pop idols from Niigata are also invited, and we are supposed to appear in the video with them. We all sit around the fire, attempting awkward small talk and pretending to toast with champagne. However, since one of them is not yet 20, the glasses only contain ginger ale. We chat with the two of them, and every time we answer a question, their reaction is something like this:
Me: I'm from Germany.Idols: EEEEHH?!?!
After about 20 very strange minutes, we finally get to stand up again and pose for a photo. Later, Nozomi tells us that usually, people have to pay for a photo with them. Without eating any of the food prepared by a famous chef from Sado, the two of them leave. So now we eat all the things that were apparently just for show on the grill and then head back to Hamochi, feeling very satisfied
