"No Service" - Zion and Bryce

Veröffentlicht: 03.09.2017

Actually I don't have service right now. Sometimes for a short timespan for my phone. How is he writing right now, do think? I drove 60 miles today for a Starbucks...

I left Vegas a couple of days ago for Glendale in Utah. Glendale is between the Zion National Park and the Bryce Canyon National Park. I found over AirBnB a tent with an air mattress. It's really nice but the next town is 30 miles away.

After I left my GPS gave me the right directions. So far so good...

... but sometimes it changes it's mind, without notice! So it made me to turn left. I did it. Followed the road for 10 miles. Then the road turned into a dirt road. Okay no problem so far... after a couple of miles there was sand on the dirt road... wtf... I don't have a 4WD... okay go ahead, it's possible. Then it turned into a sand road. Yes only sand. I drove along, then I wouldn't drive back 20 miles....

It went all well. After a couple of miles on the sand, there was pavement again. Puh! What did my GPS do? Oh simply thought to send me through the "Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park". At least I've got this picture.

I found my tent in the middle of nowhere. No service for my phone, not even for calling or SMS.

The next day I went to the Zion National Park. It costs $30/week for park. There is only a week pass, even if you only spending one day in it.... Yes it sucks a little, but it is worth the money. The scenery is very impressive.

The Scenic Drive can only be done by the free shuttle. So I've got lucky after 20min waiting to get a parking spot by the visitor center. The ride with the bus was 40min long. All is well explained and I've got off at the last station. I took the trail to the Narrows.

I planned to walk further up through the water, but then if I saw how crowded it is, I turned around. Sorry no way that I walk that way with hundreds of other tourists.

I went back to my tent. The sunset was nice, but without clouds it isn't that impressive or dramatic.

The silhouettes in the back are Zion National Park

In Zion the temperature was high. Around 110°F (43°c). The next day I went to Bryce Canyon. I left very early to avoid the crowd. It's the Labor Day weekend in the US, a Holiday.

I did not know that the route through Bryce is that high above sea level. WOW a day before 110°F, now 47°F (9°C)... Luckily I had my long sleeve shirt in the car.

This picture is from the "Bryce Point". It's elevation is 8300 (2500müM)

I made a little hike on the "Rainbow Point". It's the last point on the route. I took the Bristelcone Trail Loop. It took me 45min because I stopped a lot because of the wildlife.

So that's it. Those were my last few days. Oh yes I killed almost a deer last night... ;)
