Why do you go to Ireland?

I heard thisquestion several times and the answer is quite easy. I never decidedto go to a special country. The only criterion was, that it should bean english speaking country. The other possbilities were New Zealandand Australia. The main reason for my decision was, that I havealready got an job offer in Ireland. The salary covers my livingexpenses but I won't get rich. And there are less efforts with thevisum, because of its membership of the European Union.

Many efforts before relocating toIreland

Before starting togo to Ireland I had to do many things. It was really hard to informabout the irish systems, for example the health system or how toapply for a PPS number. I had to talk to the German institutions too,e.g.the Rentenversicherung, the Krankenkasse and theEinwohnermeldeamt. But now I think everything is working

Time to say goodbye

Thefarewell of my family, my girlfriend and all of my friends was verydifficult for me and was connected with some tears. But in the end, Iknow that I will return to Germany at some point in the future.

The journey

I decided totravel to Ireland by car, because I would be more flexible in Irelandand because you can't rent a car under 26. My mother lent her car tome for 5 months. So I started at Tuesday, 11th of October,to drive to Chambourcy, which is located in the east of Paris. Thejourney was about 8,5 hours, because there was much traffic on themotorway in Paris. In Chambourcy I visited my friend Jonas, who isdoing an aupair-year. We went to an Irish pub and I stayed thereuntil Wednesday. On Wednesday I continued the journey driving toCherbourg, where my ferry was leaving at 9pm. The ferry drivesdirectly from France to Ireland. It took about 19 hours, but it wasokay because I booked an cabin. On Thursday evening I arrived inAvoca at my host family. I was tired but happy.
