Antarktische Halbinsel / Antarctic Peninsula

Erst am 15.Tag unseres Trips (wenn wir mal den Weddellmeerbesuch nicht mitzählen) kommen wir nun tatsächlich einmal an die Antarktische Halbinsel. 

Zunächst wurden wir zwei Tage lang mit gutem Wetter bedient und bekamen einige Gelegenheiten zum Fotographieren. Paradise Bay (eine Zodiak-Fahrt) und der Lemaire-Kanal (Durchfahrt hin und wieder zurück) waren die Highlights des ersten Tages. Abends fuhren wir noch in den Neumayer-Kanal, dort wurde aber festgestellt, daß die erste Aktivität des zweiten Tages nicht möglich sein würde. Der Plan B dafür - eine Anlandung auf Danco Island mit Eselspinguinkolonie und wunderschönem Blick auf den Errera-Kanal - war aber möglicherweise sogar die schönere Option. 

Danach ging es in den Neko-Harbour hinein, und hier betreten wir dann auch antarktisches Festland. 

Tag 3 fällt hingegen etwas aus der Reihe - Nebel und Schneefall lassen nur eine reduzierte Zodiak-Fahrt an den Melchior-Inseln zu, aber hier war sowieso nur noch der Vormittag eingeplant. Danach treten wir die berühmt-berüchtigte Drake-Passage - und damit die Rückfahrt nach Argentinien/Feuerland - an.

If we do not count the Weddell Sea day into it, it took us 15 days to come to Antarctica / to reach the Antarctic Peninsula. And also, only 2.5 days are planned to be here. 

However, the first two days, the weather was with us, and we had plenty of chances to use our cameras. On day one, we had a zodiac cruise in Paradise Bay and passed the Lemaire Channel in both directions. In the evening - in Neumayer Channel - we recognized, that the morning program for day 2 would not be possible, so plans had been changed, and on the next morning we did land on Danco Island, with a Gentoo penguin colony and wonderful views along the Errera Channel. Most likely, this plan B was better than plan A … 

Later on the second day, we cruised into Neko Harbour, where we have again a landing, now on antarctic mainland. Again, we find a nice Gentoo penguin colony and great views into the bay and on the nearby glaciers.

Day 3, the wheather showed a different side. In fog and snow we did a zodiac cruise but did not see that much. After this, Antarctica was over. We started our engines and headed into the infamous Drake Passage, on our way back to Argentina / Tierra de Fuego
