Trip to Des Moines

Heute hatten wir einen unterrichtsfreien Tag, deshalb beschloss meine Gastfamilie, einen spontanen Ausflug zu machen nach Des Moines. Mit einer Fläche von 200,1 km² ist Des Moines die größte Stadt im Bundesstaat Iowa. Von St. Ansgar aus dauert die Anreise dorthin zwei Stunden. Bevor die Fahrt begann, hatten wir ein kleines Frühstück, bestehend aus Muffins und einem Joghurt. Angekommen in Iowas Hauptstadt, war ich fasziniert von der Architektur. Des Moines besitzt eine Menge an kleinen Läden, die sehr hübsch und mit viel Mühe dekoriert wurden. Wir haben ein paar Geschäften einen Besuch abgestattet und sind danach Mittagessen gegangen. ,,Fong's Pizza" soll die beste Pizza in der Stadt haben, also waren wir dort essen. Es war eine Kombination aus Pizza und chinesischem Essen, also fast so interessant wie Chips mit Dillgurkengeschmack von Lay's.

Eiscreme essen ist so etwas wie eine Tradition in meiner Gastfamilie und laut Regel Nummer 1 für unseren Austausch sollen wir ein Teil unserer Gastfamilie sein. Es fiel mir nicht schwer, mich der Tradition anzupassen. Nächster Halt: Eiscreme bei ,,Blackcat". Zu guter Letzt machten wir einen Spaziergang durch dem ,,Sculpture Park" und besuchten noch mehr Läden.

Es war eine entspannte Fahrt nach St. Ansgar mit viel Musik und Schlaf für Olivia, Katie und mich. Zum Abendessen gab es Tacos und Limonade. Ich hatte viel Spaß mit meiner Gastfamilie in Iowas Hauptstadt und freue mich auf die High School morgen.

Today we had a day off so my host family decided to have a spontaneous Trip to Des Moines. With an area of 90.65 sq mi it's the largest city in Iowa. The drive from St. Ansgar to Des Moines is around two hours. Before we started our day we had eaten a small breakfast of chocolate chip muffins and yogurt. When we arrived at our destination I was fascinated by its architecture. Des Moines has many pretty localy owned businesses. You can tell that the owners put a lot of effort into the decorating of their stores. After we visited those stores we went to get some lunch. People say that "Fong's Pizza" has the best pizza in the city so we went there to eat. That restaurant was a mixture of chinese food and pizza, which is just as interesting as Lay's pickle potato chips. One of my host family's tradition is to get ice cream and rule number 1 for our exchange says that we have to be a part of our host family's traditions. It wasn't hard for me to follow this main tradition. Next stop: ice cream from "Blackcat". At the end of our trip we walked through the sculpture garden and visited more local shops. The drive back to St. Ansgar was relaxing with music and sleep for Olivia, Katie, and I. When we got home we had tacos and lemonade for dinner. I had a lot of fun in Iowa's state capital and I can't wait to go back to high school tomorrow.
