Another great day
Which, thanks to my mobility, had the first highlight in a monastery. Because just the sermon in the monastery 'Agia Triada Tzagaroli' was over. The monks and the visitors just came out and made themselves comfortable in the courtyard under the trees and roofs. A peaceful atmosphere. I made the tour and visited the small museum with the old writings and icons. Incredible contemporary witnesses in a peaceful and holy place. On the way out, there was a monk at the 'ticket counter' (plastic chair that almost seemed to burst under the stately weight of the bearded man wrapped in black) and I was able to pay the 2.50 euros later.
The second monastery nearby closed its doors just in front of me. From 12-17 o'clock visitors are not welcome. So I changed my plan and took a dusty, rough detour to the nearby 'Zorbas' beach.... Wow, here you can feel the power of the sea quite massively. Impressive! Everything else, as expected, not worth mentioning. Even though the famous movie was shot here.... Back in the day... a long, long time ago!
Frapé and freshly squeezed orange juice for lunch and here we go..... Driving is fun and easy (if you know how the Greeks drive and adapt to their driving style), so I immediately entered the next destination into the navigation system: Botanical Garden in Fournes. The drive there is already worth the trip. The road winds further and further up into the green mountains. The botanical garden is 2.5 kilometers long and 2 hours is a good time for the tour. Buy a ticket for 6 euros and water; let's go! Unbelievable what there is to see and experience here. Lovingly designed, the path goes down and down to a small lake and then steadily back up to the starting point. On the way peacocks, geese or chickens of all kinds cross the path. The plants are signposted and so you can find your way very well. Everything always nice in the shade (with partly a lot of wind which made it even more pleasant) and also the few children had fun. It was a very colorful and educational afternoon, including a few feathers I found and special honey I bought.
Since I was already 'in the area' and wanted to eat in a very special taverna; the next stop was already entered in the navi: the 'Dsounias' is located at 500 meters altitude in the small mountain village Drakona. This insider tip is really worth the trip. Besides the gigantic view you have from there, the food is as typical as it can be. A taverna without a menu. No joke! The owner, Stelios, takes the guest into the kitchen (!) and opens all the pots in which there is still something delicious inside. He cooks everything on the fire, so without electricity! Slowly, gently and everything from their own farm. I knew that there was this, before the big tourist flow, in Greece, that you could choose the dishes in the kitchen. But to still experience this in this day and age is an incredibly great thing. I was late, and therefore the only guest. Only one table of locals was celebrating Stelios' birthday. What a down to earth honest ambiance which I was able to enjoy and be a part of.With his broken English, Stelios tried to explain everything to me in detail. And then he came back with a handful of herbs. Mint, lemongrass and 2 more he picked out of the flower pots next to the taverna and asked me if I wanted a mountain tea. This was very healthy and delicious. The fresh herbs smelled incredible and the tea was accordingly unique. Oh yes, by the way, this multi-part culinary experience cost me just 14 euros. As a conclusion, his little daughter showed me the maisonette apartment they own. So if I would come again next time, I would not have to pay anything, he said. Oops. What a sweet offer....
On the way back I enjoyed a great sunset atmosphere and I had to be careful not to miss the 'pedestrians' on and beside the roads! Smile
