Sunday 10.11. - Sunday 17.11.: After saying good bye to most of the amazing garden route tour groupe, I spent one night at 91 loop hostel in the city center (can't recommend it, very noisy and too warm). On Sunday I ent for a free walking tour, which was very interesting. I also visited the old slave quarter Bo-Kaap. The slaves had to wear dim colors, so they painted their houses in the brightest ones. In the evening I moved to an airbnb room in camps bay, which was great. Unfortunately I had caught a cough on the tour and it got quite bad for two days, so I stayed in bed a lot. On Wednesday, I did a bus tour and listened to some wonderful music at Waterfront. The busker's name is Stanley Sibande, check him out on Facebook, he is great. In the evening I met a girl from the garden route to watch the sunset at 14 Stories Roof Top Bar. After that, some partying with live music at Mama Africa and some dancing at Souk. Thursday, I did more bus tours and enjoyed the sunset from signal hill. Really a wonderful spot to enjoy the sunset! On Friday I went whale watching. Paul from Ocean Wildlife Entcounter/ Ocean Wonder was a great guide and explained a lot of things to us about the nature and ocean wildlife around Capetown. We were a bit unlucky for not seeing whales, but we had a beautiful encounter with some dolphins, seals and penguins. The boat trip itself was a lot of fun too, jumping over the waves and enjoying the stunning scenery. Back on land, the guys and gals at Oceana Power Boat Club were very nice and helped me plan my trip to Table Mountain. Because finally, after I could not go up for 2 days because of the strong wind, everyone assured me, that I would be able to go up today. As I arrived at the cable car ticket counter, it had just been closed 😑😑😑 Strong winds were coming in again. I thought about hiking up, but my fitness was still not back to 100%, so I thought, I'd just hike up a little bit. I did that, but had to turn back after 15 minutes, my lungs were just like: NOPE! So I went back to the ticket station and voila, it had opened again. Hardly a line and I could go up straight away. Haha, so lucky! ✌️The views from up there where amazing. But when I wanted to go back down, a cold and wet wind had started and the line for the cable car was loooooooong! I had to wait in line for about an hour and the winds got worse and worse. Fortunately I was well prepared and could put on more layers of clothing (in the end I had 4 layers on). But a lot of people were only wearing shorts and a t-shirt!!! After about 45 minutes they started to hand out blankets to the people standing in line. I was sooo glad when I was finally in the cable car. Had a very hot shower after I got home! On Saturday I went on a wine tasting tour in Stellenbosch with Wine Flies. Oh boy, it was wonderful. The wine estates were beautiful, the wine delicious, the people were so nice and our tour guide Lejaun (I'm so sorry for writing it wrong 🙈) was knowledgeable and had good vibes. I was drunk by 12:00 and had so much fun! Going to bed with a slight headache and some ibuprofen, I was happy but very tired. And today, on Sunday, I am leaving. Had a bit of stress, realizing quite late, that my flight had been changed, but it all worked out. I enjoyed South Africa and Capetown a lot and I definitely want to come back! Things I have learned: Capetown is not made for walking (though I did walk a lot but after dark, even in the city center, it is not a good idea) and rushing is not something, a lot of South Africans seem to do. When ordering food etc., be prepared to wait a while. Just try to get into the layed pack groove, a good exercise for most Germans 😋
