My adventure in New Zealand

Veröffentlicht: 30.09.2019

Hey guys!

I´m Lena, 15 years old and I live in a small town near Stuttgart in Germany. Next year, I plan to spend half a year in New Zealand.

Why New Zealand?

Four years ago, we spent 3 days in New Zealand, before my family and I travelled to Australia. That was far too short! I fell in love with this nature and its people. That´s why I sweared I have to come back. And now time has come.

My home

If I will go to New Zealand, I leave my parents, my little sister Cara (almost 14), my two rabbits Lucky and Nala and my best friend Gianina (she´s my best friend since the first class) back. They all support me in my dream, but I think these are the people who will miss me most.

Things I love

In my free time, I play hockey (for 7 years) and tennis (for 9 years). I hope I can keep playing hockey in New Zealand. Besides I love to bake, to watch soccer with my dad, to shop with my best friend, to listen to music and dance with my sister, to do yoga with my mum, to travel, to swim, to ski, to fly, to help, to present, my family and friends, sunsets, roses, animals, ice cream, chocolate, snow, quotes and Christmas.

My Favourites

Here are my favourites:

- Favourite movie: Mr.& Mrs. Smith

- Favourite series: Gossip Girl

- Favourite subjects: English, Biology, Social Studies

- Favourite colours: green, red

- Favourite food: Maultaschen, Rostbraten (specialities of my area)

In contrast to Germany, education in New Zealand costs money. A lot of money. Therefore, I try to get a scholarship. For this scholarship I have to answer this three questions in this blog:

1. How would a New Zealand education would make you NEW?

2. What NEW thinking could you do in New Zealand?

3. What is NEW about studying in New Zealand?

And here is my answer:

I have thought a lot about the meaning of `make me NEW`. For me, `make me NEW` means change. Changes are a big part in our life. Half a year can change us. Often we even do not realize that we change. But I guess, half a year in New Zealand brings change that we really recognize. In New Zealand I like to change and make my weaknesses NEW.

Going to another country without our family and friends needs a lot of courage and confidence. I think both of them are not absolutely part of my strengths. I would love to make those traits a part of my qualities.

Besides I am really open for new things, but I am often somewhat shy if I meet new people. In New Zealand I will meet many new people, so I hope I can make my approaching of other people NEW in New Zealand.

If we meet new people, we often have many prejudices. That´s why I love to make me NEW as well as in terms of prejudices.

I expect making me NEW is one of the most important thing while I spend one of the best time of our life in New Zealand.

Like I already mentioned, I had thought a lot about making me NEW and I have noted that I´m a person who bothers a lot. Therefore, I would appreciate to think first of all positive in New Zealand and make my way of thinking NEW. In my opinion, if you have more positive thoughts on your mind and see more things positive in the world, you will get happier. I wish that happiness is my constant attendant in New Zealand.

Moreover, I would like to cherish things more and alert me that not everything in life is natural. Especially to spend half a year in New Zealand is not natural. It is not natural that my family and friends let me go, that my parents support me and my wish, that my school and teachers endorse me, that my health is on my side, that a school and a host family in New Zealand receives me and that I have the possibility to discover a new country and of course, to make me NEW.

The German school system is good, but not perfect, so I am really happy that I can experience a new school system.

A lot of things would be new for me. For example the different classes. In Germany, we are all the time in the same class. Additionally, the subjects would be NEW for me. I think the subjects of New Zealand are very fascinating and true-to-life. I hope I will learn lots of things which will help me later.

Many things will be NEW for me in New Zealand and many things will change. But I think New Zealand is the perfect place for me.

I hope you pursue my adventure in New Zealand!

See you soon

Lena
