Isla Ometepe and Goodbyes

Veröffentlicht: 28.05.2017

Our last stop in Nicaragua was the island on the lake of Nicaragua, Ometepe.

We took a bus to Rivas and then a taxi to the port where the boat left from San Jorge to the volcano island.

The boat ride was calm and very slow (10 km/h) so it took us 1 hour to arrive. On Ometepe we stayed in the hostel central, where the atmosphere was very good since it  was mostly visited by backpackers.

Sadly we only had a short stay there, so we walked to the nearby beach to watch a beautiful sunset. Ometepe is always highly praised by backpackers but  definitely not for it's white sandy beaches since ...you're basically swimming in volcano ash. Ometepe has it's own charm so with its 2 volcanos it puts you unter it's spell.

Because of our tight schedule we've rented a scooter for 15$ and drove to the so recommended ojo de agua. We were honestly disappointed because it was not only crowded, but also not close to anything that is beautiful nature .

Riding a scooter was still worth it just for the ride itself, since we were driving in a group of about 10 people.

We wish we had  time to explore Ometepe a little  more as  we've only heard good things about the rest of the island.

The same night we made it to Rivas  where we stayed at very helpful and nice friends of my brother, so Sina would catch her bus to Costa Rica the next morning.

After spending 4 weeks of traveling together through 4 beautiful countries - it was quite sad to see her leave but we told ourselves when one journey ends the next one is just around the next corner.
