Semuc Champey and the luck of the unorganized ones.

Veröffentlicht: 12.04.2017

After our day trip to Tikal, we've decided to leave the next day to take the bus at 8am to Lanquin with an 8 hour shuttle.

What we didn't plan was going out till 5:30am and oversleeping till 8.10 so logically our bus departure as well.

In our panic of loosing a day, being stuck in Flores, I asked around if there wasn't another possibility to get to Lanquin while Sina was picking up her laundry ..that we also almost forgot.

Luckily we got the last 2 seats on a ride at 9am.

We're not talking about normal seats here. More of about the seats that they put in between the normal ones which are just maybe used when there is an emergency for a ride of 3 minutes.

No words needed.

But we didn't care, we just wanted to arrive in Lanquin on that day and not the next one.

To sum it up: we sat in a shuttle at 9am (with people who waited 1 hour for us, as we found out later) on the worst seats for 40 QZ more, without having any food prepared for the way and just 2 hours of sleep in our system but a 8 hour ride ahead of us.

Tired but not too tired to take a picture with this beautiful view.

As we took a break in Coban, where the bus driver asked every one at which hostal they were staying. We explained to him that we hadn't had any reservations yet..

We were again lucky enough that he offered his help to call in a hostal (Oasis) for us to make a reservation. Shut out to the best shuttle driver...if he hever reads this.

The next day we took a trip to Semuc Champey, which is a natural monument in the department of Alta Verapaz. It was about an 1 hour ride on a trailer.

The transportation costed us 50QZ and the entrance as well. But you can also book it as a tour. -Then you got the rafting and the cave included.-

We were glad we didn't because like this we werealways at places without other tourists.

Mirador (view point)

Semuc Champey is definitely worth a visit and as long as its not overloaded with tourists yet, even more. If youre lucky you'll see a few monkeys above you in the mountains.

Till our next stop at the beautiful Lago de Atitlan.

At the famous pools of Semuc Champey
