Coconuts and Peaches

Veröffentlicht: 13.09.2016

Buenos dias to everyone who took a few minutes today to find out what I have been up to lately.

First of; Im very sorry I didn't take the time to upload a new post in the last couple of weeks but I have to say Im living through a routine here so its no as interesting as anyone might think when you say "Im in Mexico right now".

Soooo....During the first couple of days my host mom had the brilliant idea to send me to a party of one of her younger colleagues where a bunch of people would be... I have never met before. And open as I am I said yes with the advice of a friend in the back of my mind, telling me " If you get an opportunity: take it or you'll regret it".

There I was with a bunch of strangers I have never met before and I had one of the best nights out; although it was just a party in someones living room. What made this party good were mainly two things: The people and the reggeaton music that just kept reminding me of where I was. The big difference I dislike the most about the average German party is probably that everybody sits on a couch and some electro music is playing, no one could ever properly dance to anyway.

So this was a very great evening mainly because people aren't afraid to dance and enjoy their life without being totally wasted. And no, Im not saying German people don't know how to party, Im just saying that this was at least more fun for me. We all have our favorites and we all can be subjective at times so  please don't take it too serious.

So here comes the part I mentioned in the headline. One of the girls I met on that party has become a good friend and as we were talking about the different characters all around the world she once said "You Europeans are like coconuts and we are like peaches". She made a good point because no matter where you go in Mexico people are very open and friendly just like a peach from the outside. But they have a hard core, so its hard to really get under their skin. Us Europeans are hard to crack (like a coconut) but once you get there we're open like a book. Of course this whole comparison is not usable for every European or every Latino/a but there are definitely some parallels.

So in general i would say I had a good start here in the world of social life. Although I have to say... the system of different classes and people judging others over their income and clothes exists here and its going strong. I don't know why this shocked me but maybe I saw it more with a eyes of a tourist at the beginning because everyone seems so nice to each other. Or maybe that is just what I wanted to see. But as every place in the world we got up and downsides to everything.

So since Im mainly here for my aupair job I might write a little about this too. What can I say...Kids nowadays are not going through the same childhood then I did. But what is to expect when everyone has their own Tablet or Laptop. Its not like the 2 kids I live with are constantly playing (only allowed on weekends) but It is still part of their life's somehow. I was lucky enough to get in a family who doesn't watch Tv and has someone who help them in the household, which means I just have to take care of the kids which is nothing to really complain about. The best part about the housekeeper is not that she cleans everything (I mean thats great too ) but that she only speaks Spanish, so Im forced to talk Spanish everyday at least a little.. Since Im speaking of her, she is calling because we will be going to the market. So I have to cut this ending short and maybe next time, I have more stories to tell about the children.

Sightseeing is important too :) //Angel de la independencia

Thank you for reading this and a beautiful day/night to everyone ! :)
