Day 81 Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater

Veröffentlicht: 31.08.2022

Day trip to the Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater. Information available said it would take about 2-3h one way to drive on the gravel road to the crater, so with an early start and nice weather with some clouds we started in the hope to return before sunset.

The gravel road was well maintained and graded, so the information about the drive was not accurate and we arrived a lot earlier at the crater than planed.

The Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater ist the second biggest one in the world but has been discovered only about 70 years ago. It is a short climb up to the rim to have a nice view of the crater itself. The nice cloud formation of the day gave some shade and nice photos, but also lots of wind.

The damaged car on the way back reminded us to have a close look at our car: the number plate was still there (cable ties really work), but one tyre looked not so well, so we invested some time to check when in our travel plans we will be able to exchange this tyre (yes, tyres - auto service again...) and hope that the tyre will last til this Monday in Kununurra. Fingers crossed...
