Day 79 Wyndham & around

Veröffentlicht: 04.09.2022

Nearby Kununurra is the other "service-town" for the Gibb River Road Wyndham. The city is also known for its Five Rivers Lookout. Due too the clouds and dust from the fires around one couldn´t really see five rivers, but at least three rivers  flowing together.

After having some Toblerone cheesecake in the only bakery/cafe we could find ( which was really busy), we went for a gravel road detour to at first the Moochalabra Dam. With the help of a map, we then also found the Moochalabra cave paintings, which are just a few meters next to a car park.

On the way to the next stop, the Prison tree everything was very dry and burned down, so pretty funny to find a little pool with water lily. Stuart liked the Prison tree which was used in the past to hold prisoners on overnight trips. Maybe Stuart liked the tree so much, because it was a pretty cool spot contrary to the rest of the day with temperatures around 38-40C.

With this heat, no surprise the King River flood area was completely dry and people were practising their 4x4 driving skills on the dry sand.

For our next stop we were heading to the  Crocodile hole to look out for some crocs, but no croc to be seen and Stuart did not want to go for a swim to find one. So to give Stuart the croc photo he wanted, we went to the huge croc statue in Wyndham.

Last stop of the day was at The Grotto for the much needed swim in the cold pool. You have to walk down around 150 steps to get to the pool, but it is totally worth it on such a hot day to be able to go for a swim in the cold water.
