Day 174 Through Outback South Australia

Veröffentlicht: 05.12.2022

After our relaxing and warm days in the Ikara Flinders Ranges we left for our next stop at Broken Hill. It is a bit of a drive to Broken Hill, especially with huge road works over long distances with a speed limit of 40km/h with no stops for toilet or some food along the way as most towns on the road were more or less empty. A pleasant surprise on the drive was the small town of Orroroo: here we discovered a small shop with a big sign "baking today", so we walked in and were surprised by the different stuff on offer and all the freshly baked items and the bread. It took a while, but finally decided for some breakfast and some bread for dinner. Before driving on, we also had a look at the Giant Red Gum Tree.

Out next stop was for Stuart: Peterborough had a small railway on display and Stuart thought this would be the perfect size item for him.

On the drive to Broken Hill one wouldn´t know that you leave the state of South Australia for New South Wales if there wouldn´t be the huge signs. The town at the border advertises coffee, toilets and more, but nothing left, so we just drove on.

At Broken Hill Stuart was very happy to be safely in our new accommodation as during the drive there were all the time a vast number of grass hoppers on the street and in the air, leaving quite some marks and biomass on our car. Parked at our accommodation we also realized that one of birds on the hunt for the grass hoppers did not get out of our way fast enough and died. With all the dead grass hoppers the car became pretty smelly, so we decided to move all sightseeing to the next day and instead invest in a car wash.
