Start ins neue Jahr

An Silvester kamen wir an unserer letzten Station auf Zanzibar an: Nungwi. Der Ort ist bekannt für schöne Strände, viele Touristen (vor allem Italiener) und eine riesige Silvester-Full-Moon-Party in Kendwa Rocks unweit von Nungwi. Auch wir hatten vor dorthin zu gehen und die restlichen Tage auf Zanzibar vor allem am Strand zu verbringen.

In Nungwi hatten wir wieder eine schöne Unterkunft - Casa Umoya. Auch dieses Hotel hatte einen Garten mit vielen Bäumen, Hängematten und Hollywoodschaukeln (und wer mich kennt, weiß, liebe Hollywoodschaukeln!). Wir hatten eine kleine Hütte mit Bad und einer kleinen Veranda (leider ohne Hollywoodschaukel) für uns. Den verbleibenden Silvestertag verbrachten wir am Strand und mit den Vorbereitungen für den Abend. 

Der Plan sah vor zuerst am Strand essen zu gehen und dann vier Kilometer zur großen Party am Strand zu laufen. Der erste Part verlief auch wie geplant. Allerdings spielte der DJ in der Bar neben unserem Restaurant so gute Musik, dass wir beschlossen uns den Weg und das Eintrittsgeld für die Party zu sparen und stattdessen einfach ein paar Cocktails zu schlürfen. Gegen Mitternacht hatte sich die Bar auch etwas gefüllt und um 0 Uhr wurde ein großes Lagerfeuer angezündet - alles in allem war es eine gelungene Silvesternacht.

Die restlichen Tage vergingen wie im Flug. Wir verbrachten wie geplant viel Zeit am Strand. Wir besuchten aber auch eine Aufzuchtstation der auf Zanibar lebenden Wasserschildkröten und machten einen Sunset Cruise mit einem Dhow. Wobei wir leider keinen Sonnenuntergang sahen. Wir wurden aber entschädigt mit einem umso schöneren Sonnenuntergang, den wir an einem anderen Abend beim Abendessen beoachten durften.

Am 4. Januar machten wir uns früh am Morgen wieder auf den Weg nach Stone Town, von wo aus wir eine Fähre nach Dar es Salaam an der Küste von Tansania nahmen - eine Station auf dem Weg nach Uganda.

Starting Into the New Year in Nungwi

On the 31. December we moved to Nungwi in the North of Sansibar. It is known for beautiful beaches, tourists (especially Italians), and a huge new years eve full moon party in Kendwa Rocks, which is nearby. We had also planned to go to the party and to spent the most of our last days on Sansibar on the beach.

Again, we had a very nice hotel with a garden with lots of trees and bushes, hammocks and porch swings (and those who know me know, I love porch swings). We had our own little cabin with a bathroom and a porch (however, without a swing). The day of the 31. Decemer we spent on the beach and getting ready for the night. The plan was to eat at a small seafood barbecue place on the beach and then make our way to the party, which was about 4km away. 

The first part of the evening went as planned. However, the bar next to the restaurant played such good music, we decided to ditch the party and save the entrance fee to have some cocktails at that bar. And that is what we did. Close to midnight more and more people came to the bar and at midnight a big campfire was lit in front of the bar - on the whole, we had a pretty good night!

The remaining days on Sansibar passed far to quickly. We spent most of them on the beach, but we also visited the "zoo" where small turtles are nursed before they are released to the sea to protect the species. Also we went on a sunset cruise on a dhow. However, that night we did not see a sunset, instead we saw the most beautiful sunset another night during dinner.

On the 4. Januar we took a taxi back to Stone Town from where we took a ferry to Dar es Salaam on the coast of Tansania. Dar was a stop on our way to Uganda, where Maria has been living for the past two and a half years and where I would stay with her for a couple of weeks.
