40 shades of blue. Heute erkundeten wir den Nord-Westen der Insel. Nach ca 1 Stunde erreicht man die Nordküste mit dem schönen Städtchen Hale’iwa, der Heimatort von Eveline, aber auch von Hippies und Aussteigern. Wir schlenderten durch das Städtchen, genossen die entspannte Atmosphäre, die einfache aber leckere Kulinarik und den unbeschwerten Lebensstiel der Surfcracks. Im Winter gibt es hier die längsten Breaks der Welt und da bilden sich auch die berühmten Röhren. Ziemlich cool!! Dann gings mit dem Auto weiter zum Ka’ena Point. Wirklich wild und zumeist menschenleer ist das Areal um den westlichsten Punkt O’ahus. Ein Stück Postkaren-Hawaii. Wir fuhren mit dem Auto bis es nicht mehr weiter ging, parkierten und nahmen die 5Km unter die Füsse. Freiwillig! 40 Schattierungen von Blau reichen vermutlich nicht. Es war heiss, windig, karge Dünen und Graslanschaft aber der Ausblich auf den Pazifik war unbezahlbar. Anscheinend sieht man oft auch Wale und Delfine. Die fleissigen Leser dieses Blogs wissen was das heisst: wir haben nix gesehen 😉 Aber wir haben Robben und Albatrosse gesehen – das war doch auch schon was! Am äussersten Zipfel gibt’s noch eine alten Leuchtturm und eine unglaubliche Aussicht auf beide Seiten der Insel, zerklüftet und dramatisch. Mega. Leider bot sich ein ähnliches Bild auf Zoe’s Bauch. Sie hatte sich ja vor ein paar Tagen einen Sonnenbrand eingefangen der am abheilen war. Für die Wanderung hatte sie sich fett eingecremt da wo sie keine Kleider trug. Das hat nur bedingt funktioniert. Sie hat einen weiteren Sonnenbrand auf dem schon existierenden Sonnenbrand unter der Kleidung eingefangen, wo sie sich nicht eingecremt hatte!! Was für ein zartes Blümchen – ehrlich! Also Füsse in die Hände und nix wie retour zum Auto und Schatten. Von da aus gings zurück Richtung Honolulu mit einem Zwischenstopp an der Dole Ananas Plantation. Da gabs alles in Ananas – egal was, man kann es auch in Ananas Form, Geschmack und Aussehen bekommen. War lecker und witzig. Das Ausfährtchen an die Westküste Oahus haben wir dann ausgelassen, weil Zoe echt einen Break brauchte.

40 shades of blue. Today we explored the Nord-West of the island. After about 1 hour we reached the Northshore with the lovely little town Hale’iwa, the hometown of Eveline, but also of Hippies and opt-outs. We strolled through the village, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the simple but delicious cuisine and the carefree lifestyle of the surf cracks. In the winter the longest breaks of the world are building themselves here and form the famous pipes. Rather cool! Then we took the car and drove to the Ka’ena Point. A quite wild and deserted areal around the westernmost point of O’ahus. A peace of Postcard-Hawaii. We drove until we could, parked and started the 5Km hike. On free wills! 40 shades of blue probably aren’t enough. It was hot, windy dry dunes and grass landscape but the view to the Pacific was priceless. Apparently whales and dolphins can be spotted here. The regular reader of this blog knows what that means: we didn’t see anything 😉 but we did see Monk seals and Albatross – that was not too bad either! At the very end there is still an old lighthouse and an incredible view towards both sides of the island rough and dramatic. Amazing. Unfortunately a look at Zoe’s belly was equally dramatic. She did get a few days ago a sunburn which was healing nicely. For the hike she put a lot of sun cream on where she didn’t have any close on. That only worked partially. She got a sunburn on top of her existing sunburn underneath her cloth – where she did not put sun cream on!! What a delicate flower – really! So we raced back to the car and shadow. From there we headed towards Honolulu and made a stopover at the Dole Pineapple plantation. Everything was available in Pineapple – no matter what it was available also in form, taste and looks of a Pineapple. It was delicious and fun. We skipped the short trip alongside the west coast of Oahu, as Zoe really needed a break.
