Sunday Night Market in Chiang Mai

Veröffentlicht: 23.01.2019

Chang Mai is the biggest city in Northern Thailand and has a population of 130.000 pax and its foundation goes back to 1296. In the old city one still can find remains of the city walls and moats remaining from the time when Chiang Mai was a religious and cultural center. The old city is laid out in a rectangular form and is surrounded on all four sides by a water moat full with water.

Through different gates one enters the old city. My hotel is around 10 minutes walking distance from the Chiang Mai Gate. Chang Mai is famous for its Night Market, however every Sunday a special night market takes place. The main streets of the city are turned into pedestrian streets and closed for traffic and there is a huge market.

Before I visit this market I enjoy some delicious street food at the small everyday evening food market right at Chiang Mai Gate. I eat my favorite  food, vegetarian Pad Thai, a dish made with typical Thai noodles.

Then I head to the Sunday Night Market. The whole street is a market and everywhere is music. Also some dancers and singers perform. On the night market one can buy practically everything - from food to clothes, bags, souvenirs....I eat several times small things, even sweets, it smells so wonderful everywhere and the food is sooo delicious, it is just too tempting for me to resist.

Besides food also drinks are extraordinary delicious. Everywhere you can get fresh fruit juices and smoothies. My favorite is so far the coconut smoothie and I have at least one every day.

Even though I cannot convey the smells and taste via internet I hope you can get a little „taste“ of the atmosphere when you look at my pictures!
