Last day in Bangkok

Veröffentlicht: 18.01.2019

On Tuesday at 6 pm it is time for me to leave the Mariott hotel and move to a hostel. From a fancy hotel to a modest accomodation - what a change! However I was really lucky to find a place in walking distance from our hotel. And funny enough I had looked at this very hostel already in Austria on booking.com.

When I packed my suitcase and left  the Mariott to walk to my new domicil for a night I felt a little sad that I was not with Susanne any more.

To the hostel  it is only about 10 minutes walking distance. The hostel is called "SLEEPBOX" and has the charme of a gas station. Judging by the decoration and the objects one can find there this was obviously intended.

I booked a female dorm room for 4. When I checked in I was the only person there. However when I came back from dinner all four beds were occupied.
The rooms are small and very clean. Every bed had its own private locker and they even provided towels for everyone. In the room there was also a private shower and a toilet just for the four of us. And in front of every bed there was a curtain for more privacy.

Later on I went out to meet up with my colleague from Austria who by chance spent together with her husband a few days in Bangkok as well. And they also stayed in a hotel in walking distance. So we met up for dinner and had a nice evening together.

When I came back to my hostel there were already 3 more girls in the room. The hostel was mostly frequented by Asians. I slept well and long and after breakfast I made my backpack ready for going to the North. As so had to be at the busstation by 5:30 I was not up for lots of sightseeing any more. Also I felt a little lonely as I really was by myself for the first time. This was one of these moments when I said to myself "What am I doing here all by myself? At home It is nice and safe and I have my own bed and my loving husband next to me...I am so stupid." Then I read in fb a message from a friend who suggested to me to visit Lumphini Park where one can see big lizzards. So I got up and walked to the subway station and took a train to the park. I saw several monitoring lizards and strolled through the park and felt much better after a little while.

When I was standing im front of one tree I observed something very interesting: there was a lizzard in the tree climbing up. From below the poor thing was hunted by a cat and from above by a bird. The bird you can see in one of the pics.

(I know that there still are so many things which are must sees of Bangkok and which I have not seen yet, however on one hand I am more the "take it easy" kind of traveller who does not have to see everything and on the other hand I hope to come back to Bangkok one day. A personal must see during my next trip to Bangkok will definately be the "Graveyard of Planes").

When I came back to the hostel in the afternoon of Thursday I called a taxi and went to the railwaystation. And then my trip to the North of Thailand started. More about that in my next post.
