First days in Melbourne

Veröffentlicht: 15.10.2015

At first I arrived on Monday, 12. October 2015 after a long journey on the plane with a change at Delhi where we landed later than previewed because of technical problems in Frankfort and a later leaving schedule in Delhi. Finally I arrived at the airport and had to clear customs which took an eternity, at the end I left the airport 2 hrs later and entered the bus to Melbourne city. The arrival day I didn't do much because of lack of sleep and jetlag. I spent lunch with my friend Jana, where I stay at the moment. In the evening we went to St. Kilda, an area where's the ocean and beach and an amusement park.

Tuesday I discovered the city by foot, got things done, the weather was ok, not too warm but still much nicer than right now in Germany where it begins to snow in some parts of it. I did a lot of walking as it was pretty nice and as there is so much to see around here. You can visit so many sights and don't need to pay for it, which is great, you get culture and save money. There is a free Tram Zone where you can use a lot of different trams within. I went to the Harbour and even saw jellyfishes. My day ended with a walk on the Crown Promenade nearby the Yarra river and the spectacular view of Melbourne Skyline.

Wednesday I went down to Federation Square to go to the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) which is free btw and you can see everything from the beginning of films to computer games nowadays and how it changed over the years. You can spend hours in there, reading, watching and trying things. After this I stayed at Federation Square which is the main meeting point in Melbourne, outside film watching, promenades nearby the river, eating and taking trains at Flinders Street Station which is right next to it. This is one of the main stations to go anywhere basically. I was sitting there enjoying the weather and watching people. One good thing in Melbourne, the town provides water fountains all over the city where you can fill your bottle with water for free, very nice. In the evening I saw a movie there but left earlier because it was really boring, though I walked around the city and got to Chinatown. The city has such a variety of architecture, beautiful designed buildings and interesting areas, you don't know where to look first. It was a good day and I realized that in some areas certain trams not running late.
