My first time in Japan. 何?

Veröffentlicht: 05.06.2020

The first time in Japan was incredible! So many new things and everything is different in Japan. Whether on the county side or in the city – Japan has its own culture.

I started my journey in Tokyo, the biggest and busiest city I've ever been to. Almost everything in Tokyo is much more modern than in the rest of the world. There's something to see in every corner: Different cafes, restaurants, shops, hotels etc. Some things are weird like the seal-café I went to, others are so cool and just breathtaking like the huge Manga library in Akihabara.

After two weeks in Tokyo, I went to the county side in Hokkaido (southernmost Island in Japan). Rice fields, as far as you can see, so beautiful! On county side, things are calm and more traditional, there are many shrines and the old tradition is deeply rooted. Also the celebrations have an important meaning, the traditional clothing and atmosphere are golden.

I've prepared some advices for you, if you plan a trip to Japan:

1. You should learn the basics from Japanese. Every sign is written in Japanese and not everyone can speak English, especially not on the county.

2. Prepare yourself for the culture shock and the jetlag, you will definitely have either one, or both (Japan has a time difference of +9 houers.) Important: respect their culture and their religion! And respect the people, you are just a visitor.

3. Learn the basic of the culture, in Japan are things different, such as 'What is polite?'

Example: It is not polite to talk with/ greet  foreign people on the street.

In Japan, people are very discreet, that’s important.

4. Make sure that you have all important vaccinations and that your passport is up to date. It is very important that you haven’t forgot something important for your trip.

5. You need WiFi? No problem! There are mobile WiFi-routers you can cheaply buy at the airport.

6. Japan has a very low crime rate, but doesn’t mean that you are safe. The country has many natural disasters, such as tsunamis or earthquakes. Be always up to date with this. And remember: Spring is the rainseason in Japan, make sure that you have an umbrella or a raincoat with you in spring.

And last but not least, the most important advice: Enjoy your trip in Japan, one of the most beautiful country.

Ps. If you have questions, don’t be shy and contact me.
