Day 71 Kakadu National Park part 2

Veröffentlicht: 22.08.2022

Very early start for this day to have enough time to explore the remote Jim Jim and Twin Falls. From Pine Creek it is about 2h drive before the turn-off to the gravel road to Jim Jim and Twin Falls. The gravel road is well maintained til the campground and gate to the falls - after the gate it is 4WD only for a good reason.

First stop is Jim Jim Falls with the Jim Jim Falls gorge walk to at first the Plunge pool and then to the Beach pool. The first part of the walk is moderate and gives nice views of the water, but although tempting no swimming, as there might be still a saltie in the water despite the trap set up to catch & remove them from the falls. Then the walk is climbing over rocks to the Plunge pool. The pool is at that time of the day in the shade and very deep. As on the way to the Plunge pool you can see opposite the nice & sandy beach, we weren´t tempted to go for a swim here, but to walk back and onwards to the Beach walk. On the beach you have nice sand and cool, clear water to swim in - a most welcome refreshment after the long walk over rocks...

Back in the car park, we decided to drive towards the Twin Falls to see whether we can drive there despite the river crossing to maybe have a look at the Twin falls. The gravel road to the Twin Falls is well maintained, maybe even better than the Jim Jim Falls road. The river crossing was no problem at all, as the water level was very low. At the Twin Falls only the Twin Falls Escarpment walk, but not the creek walk to see the Twin Falls were open. The Twin Falls Escarpment walk only goes up and around where the Twin Falls are and takes about 4-6h, so we skipped it and went instead for the short Budjmi walk to a lookout before driving back to Pine Creek.
