1. Tag - day 1 (for english scroll down)

Sodele, die Reise hat begonnen. Die Vorfreude mutierte sich zur nervösen Vorfreude und weiter zu kalter Panik. Zoe musste noch vor der Abreise an eine Monster Saisonende Party, mit Monster vielen Leuten und kam mit einer Monster Erkältung am Dienstag abend nach Ägeri! Covid Test sind wir dann nur bedingt entspannt angegangen… Aber alles gut (sehr zu unser aller erstaunen).

So gings am Mittwoch erst «per pedas» dann mit dem Buss, dann mit dem Zug, dann mit dem Flugzeug, dann mit dem Taxi zum Big Apple!

Flughafen Zürich war so voll, das trocknet die Völkerwanderung der Chinesen am Neujahr grad ab! Die 2 ½ Stunden reichten grad bis knapp zum Gate. Kein gemütliches rumschlendern, Käfele, gucke etc. nur anstehen, warten und säckla! Dafür wurde es im Flugzeug umso gemütlicher. Eine 2er Reihe für Zoe und eine 4er Reihe für mich – läuft. Ausgestreckt (mehr oder minder) vergingen dann auch die 8 Stunden Flug. Dann ein wohlbekanntes Gefühl: nervöse Vorfreude – kalte Panik: habe ich auch alle Dokumente? Richtig ausgefüllt, nix ausgelassen, sind neue Bestimmungen dazugekommen etc. Schliesslich hatten wir schon so viele Papier ausdrucken müssen, dass der Weihnachtsbaum vor dem Rockefeller hätte daran glauben können…. Und dann: nix! Der Zöllner bestand drauf nur unseren Pass zu sehen und sonst gar nichts!!! Echt jetzt? All die Stunden am PC, ESTA, Attestation, im Test center, Impfungen, die Sorgen und Ängste – für nix?

OK, dann halt husch , husch raus bevor sie es sich nochmals anders überlegen und ins nächste gelbe Taxi 😊 Schnell ins Hotel und dann den mortz Hunger stillen. Fleisch musste her. Und da gibt’s anscheinend nur eine Antwort: Wolfgans. (Andrea und Claude sei gedankt an dieser Stelle!) Der war grad «um die Ecke» wie’s halt so ist in Manhattan. Ein Tisch gabs nimmer mehr, aber die Bar tats auch. Der erste Tag hätte nicht besser enden können. Das Fleisch war himmlisch und katapultierte uns wenig später ins Land der Träume.

So, the trip has started. The happy anticipation moved to nervous anticipation to cold panic. Zoe had to participate on a season end monster party, with millions of people and returned on Tuesday evening home with a monster cold! We were not exactly relaxed when we had to take the Covid test… but luckily much to our surprise all was good! So we started our journey on Wednesday morning first by foot, then by bus then by train then by airplane and then by cab to the Big Apple.

Zurich Airport was crazy busy – it felt like when the Chinese travel on New year! We just managed to reach the gate after 2 ½ hours. No strolling, no coffee etc. just wait, que and run! But we were rewarded in the airplane. It wasn’t full, so Zoe had 2 seat row to herself and I had a 4 seat row to myself. Stretched like that the 8 hours flight passed by quite quickly. Then the nervous anticipation to cold panic kicked in again: do we have all documents? Filled in correctly? Didn’t forget anything? Did possibly new requirements come out, which we missed etc? We did print out so much paperwork – surely the equivalent of the Christmas tree in front of Rockefeller center! And then: Nothing! The customs agent insisted to only check our passport. Nothing else! Really?? All the hours on the PC, fillin out ESTA, Attestations, visit to test center, vaccination all those worries for nothing?

Oh well, better not question it and chop chop out of the airport into a yellow cab. Quickly to the hotel and from there go and kill the craving for meat we had. There is apparently only answer to that and its called Wolfgangs (thanks to Andrea and Claude!) It was just “around the corner” as it is in Manhattan. We couldn’t get a table, but the bar was just as good. The day could not have ended better. The meat was delicious and catapulted us directly into dreamland shortly thereafter.
