Australiens Nordwesten / Australia's North-West Corner

Wir waren inzwischen schon auf 4 Road-Trips in Aussieland und haben dabei East Coast, West Coast, Red Centre und den ganzen Süden (von Perth bis Sydney) bereist. Nun ist nur noch eine Sehnsuchtsecke übrig: Der Nordwesten, die Kimberleys. Diese wollen wir uns nun in diesem (europäischen) Sommer vornehmen.

Wir werden in Darwin beginnen, uns aber nach kurzer Eingewöhnung schleunigst westwärts voranarbeiten. Ein schneller Abstecher in den Purnululu-Nationalpark zu den Bungle Bungle Ranges, und schon nehmen wir die Gibb River Road unter die Räder - 660km mehr oder weniger Offroad, Flußdurchquerungen inklusive, und rundherum eine grandiose Landschaft (das ist zumindest die Erwartungshaltung). Dann geht es zum Wandern in den Karijini-Nationalpark und zum "Schwimmen mit Buckelwalen" nach Exmouth.

Bis hierhin waren wir von Perth aus schon einmal gekommen, aber diesmal haben wir ein paar mehr Stunden im Gepäck und können daher Monkey Mia sowie dem Kalbarri-Nationalpark einen ordnungsgemäßen Besuch abstatten. Und schließlich wartet dann in Perth mit der Elizabeth Quay Island Brewery noch eine unserer absoluten Lieblings-Kneipen auf uns, bevor wir wieder zurück ins normale Leben müssen.

So far, we did 4 road trips in Australia, and we saw the East Coast, West Coast, the Red Centre, and the full stretch from Perth to Sidney in the south. One area remains on our bucket list, and we are going to tackle it now: The Kimberley region in the far and remote northwesterly corner.

We are going to start our trip in Darwin, but will shortly be heading westwards. A quick detour to the Purnululu NP with its Bungle Bungle Ranges, and soon we will take the Gibb River Road under our wheels - 400 miles of offroad, river crossings inclusive, and terrific landscapes all around (well - that's our expectation). We will stop for hiking in Karijini NP, and for swimming with humpbacks out of Exmouth.

Exmouth we have seen already on a trip from Perth, so the remaining part of our trip will be somehow "known", however, this time we have a bit more time and like to have a proper look at Monkey Mia and the Kalbarri NP. Finally, in Perth we are keen to test the new creations in one of our (worldwide) prefered pubs - the Elizabeth Quay Island Brewery, before we have to return to normal ...
