Motorbike to Valledupar

Veröffentlicht: 08.01.2020

The morning before we left for our motorbike trip Hanna prepared an incredible breakfast.

Pancakes, fruit salad, avocado, eggs and some ham&cheese torte from the bakery

We rented the bike from a local mechanic, super cheap for about 12€ a day.

Later we would give her the name "princesa"
After about 30km the first issue

The clutch was loose. I wasn't able to switch gears anymore. Turns out it was just a loose screw, our mechanical knowledge was enough to fix that 👍

We also noticed that princesa lost a lot of oil, so we kept an eye on that.

This was our gas station
Here are also big, "normal" gas stations but the small ones are everywhere. They also refill oil.
Hanna putting a new layer on sunscreen on her legs. Surprisingly she didn't get sunburnt!
This is how road works look like

The lid for the tank was difficult to open and wouldn't open at all anymore at some point. We had to get that fixed, went to the next mechanic and he did it for free! I just had to buy a new lid from the hardware store across the street. People here are extremely helpful.

An abandoned gas station..
.. and great views
Right before sundown we arrived at our couchsurfer, he had a foto session with friends.
Later that night Luis, our host, and his friends sang, tought Hanna dancing and we had beers.

It was an awesome evening, here is a video of them singing:

Luis also has a pool!
This is us

The next day we went into the mountains where an idyllic river is.

On the way we saw how the locals dry their coffee - on the street

The river in the mountains
We had the mountain river for us alone. Downtown in the city (Valledupar) is a bigger river, that is a huge attraction for locals.
People all over the place enjoying the last week of winter holidays
Every bigger group here cooks - huge amounts of soup. This pot is only for friends and family
We put the hammock up and this dude got his bed next to us.

One child came and asked what we are doing here, where we are from etc. and we soon had many more.

One father came to Hanna and asked her if she would speak English with his daughter, to practice the language a bit. She agreed and found herself soon in the awkward position to sit in front of this girl, supposed to speak now. Two dudes were filming them which didn't make it any easier but they found their flow and had a great talk for an hour.

We had later in the evening cocktails, it was also the last evening Hanna and me had together.

We left in the next morning and went back to Riohacha.
As we drove, our bike lost part of his chassis but we fixed that temporarily again.

It also lost a part of the plastic cover for the front wheel. Princesa really wasn't the easiest one but I think it's a good training for Vietnam..

Originally we planned to go with the bike into the desert but decided against that because it was terrible touristic there, people are blocking the streets and asking for money (blocking it with metal chains) and the motorbike is not made for off road, I'm sure we would have had huge issues in the desert.

We arrived good in Riohacha, packed our things and I left Hanna there alone. She continues on the Caribbean, I went to Maicao for a night to go in the morning by bus to Bogota where I am writing this blog entry now. I know this is short and that I wrote already way better stuff, I'm terrible tired but wanted to finish this - forgive me please 😋

I will play more computer here, wash all my things REALLY good (immigration to Australia is difficult when you got dirty stuff) and relax a bit.

So far so good, more news before I fly for one day layover to LA.

Peace out,

Laurin

Hey Grosser! Nun hast Du bald Deine kleine Südamerika Rundfahrt beendet? Many Hugs aus Ecktown, Henning
