I am back online!

Veröffentlicht: 27.08.2019

hello world

So the days since my last update I've been busy to get a new SIM card and a new phone.

There are four options to buy a phone in Ghana:

1. On the street, from private persons. Not recommended, they are probably broken and/or stolen and they charge every foreigner way too much.

2. On the internet, like Amazon. It's a good option if you can wait two to three weeks, which I can't.

3. From official stores. I don't have to wait and get original, not stolen phones and would almost have bought an iPhone 8+ for 500€ there but there is another option.

4. Small local stores who work as resellers and probably get original phones from websites like Alibaba. They advertise on a website called tonaton. You have to be careful tho, many people have had bad experience with these people.

I took the last option because I found a Xiaomi Mi 9 (the phone I also had before and fell in love with). I argued the seller on WhatsApp from 3150 to 2800 ghc down. (6.1ghc are 1€). That is more or less the same price like in Europe.

The vendor sent a motorcycle driver to bring me the phone and told me the driver would arrive within 30-60 minutes. After 90 minutes no driver and no answer we thought that they just played with us and drove through the city for option 3 and did a lot of research. After four hours the driver was there and Ajit and me met him in a cafe. The package looked like it was new and unopened but after opening we realised, that someone already used the phone. There were fingerprints on it and we did not pay. The driver wanted to have money from us which he did not get. After an hour he brought another phone, which was original and not re-packed. That one I took and paid for, with the bills you see in the picture. That is the biggest bill available here in the country, it was 3000ghc, so 60 bills. I felt a bit like a drug dealer with it..

So that's that. I will leave Accra on Thursday to Tamale and meet with Magalie again. In the meantime I will enjoy the time with the Spanish gang, they are really cool people. Maria, if you read this (I think you will jajaja), you guys rock ❤️!

After Tamale I will go to the Mole national park to see some elephants 🤩

So far so good, you can expect HD pictures in the future with this phone again.
