Day 26 Josephine falls & Babinda Boulders

Veröffentlicht: 14.07.2022

In the morning Stuart was feeling very cold, so grabbed a chair & a banana and escaped into the sun. Meanwhile we were heading to the local mechanics about our car damages and what would be sensible to repair. He recommended to take off two loose metal things near the front tyres, but otherwise we were good to go.

First stop for the day was then Ettsy bay to look out for Cassowaries. Well, arriving there after 10am, there were no Cassowaries to see, so we were moving on to the Josephine Falls. These are impressive & scenic waterfall with lots of water to watch. You can also go for a swim there, but Stuart decided it is by far too cold to go for a swim..

So we went on to the Babinda Boulders for a walk and enjoying some warm sun watching the waterfall. At the Boulders you could also go for a swim, but again too cold for us these days.

Stuart discovered on the way back a very huge banana, so we had to stop for Stuart to climb on the banana. After some discussions, that the banana is by far too big for the car, Stuart was coming very disappointed back to the car.

The rest of the day we used for a walk through the city center of Innisfail taking photos of some old buildings around there. Later in the afternoon we were driving then to a city lookout pointed out on a map from the accommodation for good views and wildlife. Little we did expected but were rewarded with lots of wildlife: there were many wallabies on the grasslands next to the street - small one, bigger ones.

We watched the Cassowary for a moment walking on the grass near the forest before it disappeared into the forest out of sight. Driving on, we discovered another Cassowary on its own, no yet an adult, but also no small chicken anymore, it looked different to the adult Cassowary we´ve seen before. As Cassowaries can hurt humans (there are warning information everywhere) we stayed in the car and were keeping our distance to not disturb the Cassowaries in any way.

Finally, we made it to see Cassowaries in the wild. Ticked off this point on our bucket list.
