Northwester Fjord and glacier 4days kayaking and wilderness camping!!

Veröffentlicht: 14.07.2018

Now the big adventure will start.

Going into a world for 4 days where never men lived. The inviroment and weather is just too harsh. So we will be temporary visitors in a world not made for humans to live! It is actually a rainforest _ at 60s degree Noth.

Weather forecast was pretty bad rain rain rain and about 45degrees so 8 to 12celsius. Maybe some 2 to 3 hours of sun for Thursday and Friday. OK it rains or snows and is cold in these Kenai fjords for 80% that's why they have these huge Glaciers and untouched nature.

We met with Rachel and Marsha our great guides and the Timan family Robin Jeff and Zack at Sunday evening for prep talk. Monday at 7am the adventure started as promised in the rain.

Taxi boat brought us in about 3h into the Northwestern Fjord from Seward. Rough ride. From another group half of the guys got seasick. We enjoyed the bumpy ride.

Unloading kayaks and tons of stuff and building up tents and camp next. Then Instruktion into sea kayaking _ pretty rough fjord out there. But we had stable 2man fiberglass Kajaks. First ride then Ralf at rotor me in front. I got wet from the waves like s... Soaked completely until bones or deeper.

What can I say we eat like Tribble what is normal to keep us warm. Tent stayed dry. Sleeping was warm but getting into soaked cloth in the morning and Wark yourself warm is a new experience and a real challenge. Tuesday we broke down camp in the rain _ f... _loaded eat... Everything in pouring rain. No dry spot. No dry bone on me. Again Ralf and me in one boat. This time me at rotor. Since we were the strongest boat and Ralf always paddled I got cold like a dead fish. Ralf had to take breaks otherwise I would have never got at least a little warm. If you see the pics later. There are like none from the rain. You could not even take pics! So the pics show the great time which was coming.

In the afternoon after ABOUT 4H of kayaking we reached the next camp spot. It stopped raining!!! But in Kenai you never now for how long. We were able to build up our wet tents at least in no rain. Ralf's mood was on a low. If this will rain will not stop we all will get pneumonia or die. I only want in my warm sleeping bag.... Is what I heard, and I ommit my thoughts were not much different. I counted what dry cloth I still have and how I will use em not to freeze to death in the night.

Rain did not come back in the afternoon so and Rachel Gerry Zack and I hiked to the nearby glacier in the valley. On the way back my only dry pair of boots got soaked completely after we had to go for like 1/4 mile through a creek in the bushes. Some Panik grow up in me _ more wet stuff which will never dry again!

Night was rainy but I was warm.

Sun woke us up on Wednesday morning after 2days battling rain and cold! And that for our great kayaking day. Today northwestern and northeastern and another glacier on a 15mile kayaking were on the plan. Our moods were up. We got some stuff a little dried and I decided to use my last dry cloth today...

It was an incredible day Sun Eagles other sea birds Seals Glaciers Sun and Sun and Rain again which nobody bothered any more. See pics 🌞☔🌞👍😊😊. It was worth to go through these rain a thousand times.

The Germans were splitter up this time. Each of us had a Timan _ _ American in front of. Which was the right thing. We brought them to the glacier and back home to camp. Jeff and Robin are retired so. Jeff paddled that Gerry had not my to do. Robin and I were a great team. Ralf and Zack had fun in their kayak. Rachel and Marsha were busy herding us. Especially Gerry and Jeff always took off.

Oh jah and also Thursday was unbelievable great. Nice kayaking back to pick up point like 3hours and a 5h ride on the water taxi in a soooo scenic world. I hope the pics reflect it a little. I took about a 100 in 4 days _ all great. I tried to pick some good ones out for you. 😘👍
