I slept better than I’d expected; it was quieter than I’d expected, and I waited until the other three pilgrims had left the house, as I didn’t fancy a chat this morning. Then I got up, drank two cups of tea and had some biscuits and a banana, but thank goodness my stomach was already much better than yesterday after the burger.
I set off through the town in glorious sunshine and visited a church.

Then I walked along the hillside overlooking the sea, following the yellow arrow that always marks the way along the Camino.

Sometimes there are unique works of art along the Camino; this morning I saw a beautifully crafted wooden cupboard that opens and a post with distance markers.
Camino ArtworkDistance MarkersJust before I arrived at my new accommodation, which is right on the Camino, I had the idea of asking if I could leave some of my things there now (check-in isn’t until later this afternoon). Fifteen minutes later I reached the house, but there was nobody there. I packed some heavier clothes and other items of no value into two waterproof bags and hid them under a bush in the garden. Then I started my extra trip with only half of the weight along the Rio Neiva, which choins the sea.
Shortly after I set off again, a group of children in yellow high-visibility clothing ran up to me and asked to have their photo taken with me. I was immediately taken with the idea and asked them to take a photo of us together with my mobile phone as well. They were young Scouts and spoke really good English.

Then I walked through a forest at the river, passed a tent camp of other scouts and found a lovely spot by a chapel beside the river, with a stone bank and a table and ate some snacks.

I crossed the river via a bridge and walked along a beautiful wooden walkway.

As I reached the sea, I walked along a little path through the sand dunes, and found a magnificent spot to sit down for my next rest.
Rest on the sand dune
I walked through the town, past a supermarket, back to my room. The route was longer than expected and, in places, very difficult for my right foot to walk on, as the street was really uneven and cobbled.
In the end, I walked 19.5 km instead of the planned 7 km, and I was relieved that I hadn’t carried all my things with me that afternoon. I was completely knackered and my right foot was playing up a bit. But now, after a hot shower and something to eat, I’m back to my old self.
