Glacier National Park

Veröffentlicht: 04.08.2022

On 12th July, we hiked the Great Glacier Trail in Glacier National Park, all the way to the toe of the remaining Illecillewaet Glacier. Around 100 years ago, it only took you around ½ hour to get there, so it was a major attraction along the Canadian Pacific Railway and basically the origin of mountaineering in the Rockies. Now, you need 1 hour more. Plus, you don’t even see the glacier anymore from down where the luxury hotel (Glacier House) once stood... The upper part of the hike is the most interesting as you scramble over the stone the glacier smoothly polished, leaving some cool rock formations and large brown red iron bands.

In the evening, we went to the cinema in Golden. It reminded me of the small, vintage cinema in my hometown where I went to in elementary school. But it was crowded with locals who also wanted to watch the new Thor movie. They only had salty popcorn, which isn’t really our favourite, so we tried to spice it up with cheddar flavour. They handed us a small bag with some white powder you had to spread over the popcorn. It was a bit weird and didn’t really look appetizing but it was actually quite tasty.
