Pleasant was the night. Actually very quiet. The air conditioner does its best and actually the temperature was very comfortable to sleep in the windowless room with 4 sleeping pods and private bathroom. The door to the hallway is actually a sheet of paper. At least as far as soundproofing goes. Smile
In the morning I almost not noticed that the 3 roommates had already left the room. So I was the last one. Perfect! So I could sort my luggage a bit, settle down a bit. As far as this is possible here. My suitcase is under the bed in a lockable trayer, since this is as DEEP as the whole mattress is LONG, I can use it only limited. Can't slip into the trayer every day looking for my clothes! So the carry-on suitcase is right next to my mattress with me in the sleeping compartment inside. Works out well that way though. Otherwise, it still has 2 shelves in the room. There, however, everyone has access at any time. Thus not so perfect for most things. Although, I do not know if a guest here would let something go...
At 11:30 I was showered and ready for the checkin. This I had missed last night, because the reception is not staffed 24 hours. I was greeted friendly. After the paperwork quickly measure the temperature and it was done. At least almost.
I could pay right away if I wanted to.... Excuse me? Wait a minute. I already paid for the trip in February when I booked. Apparently this is not the case. But she will clarify it. Since I don't have a car yet today, I'll set off on foot. Where to? To Chania Town. According to the app, this is a 15-20 minute walk. From the hostel to the sea it is about 6 minutes. There is a bus station right in front of the house. Without timetable. Therefore, I assume that this is no longer used. But as I discovered later, there is a 'real' bus stop just around the bend. Even with digital display when the next one will come! Pha! Almost like in Switzerland....On the way to the sea I went shopping. Drinks. I had no desire to eat. The huge appetite from the night before was gone. But I was all the more thirsty.
And indeed: there it is, the sea. Big, blue-green and a bit wavy. The wind, which feels very pleasant on the skin, makes the water sway and it does have a few waves. There are only a few swimmers. Is certainly because it has some super nice beaches in Crete. But the one in town is certainly not one of them.
I strolled along the promenade, taverna to taverna, with a few guests who let it go well there. I noticed that most of them spoke Greek. Only rarely one recognized tourists (either at the appearance or at the language). The blue sky, the harbor ambience, the boats, the seagulls... vacations! Then the lighthouse, the landmark of Chania, came closer and closer. And so did the endless variety of stores and shopping opportunities. Everything the tourist heart desires. But also a few trouvailles. You just have to look well and be able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff. SmileSoon I had already bought a few small things and the time passed in flight. Overall, few people in the alleys and restaurants. Pleasant. The Greeks told me that there are several flights from Germany and also a few from Switzerland every day. This was noticeable. I explained to them that this is also related to the fact that Spain and Portugal, among others, are now no longer so in demand (thanks to Corona) and therefore Greece is now high in demand.
I was still not hungry. But I drank all the more.
But now the time was there to dedicate myself to my main goal of Chania: the jewelry store 'Alexia Jewels'. I came across this goldsmith on Facebook about 2 years ago and since then some of her pieces made me dream. She ships worldwide; but I wanted to be able to see the pieces live and try them on. And today was finally the day! I'm so excited. Last week I wrote to her to announce my arrival. Apparently with a lasting impression. Because she recognized me immediately and greeted me warmly.
What followed is hard to describe. But, it is a prime example of Greek hospitality. After I had tried a few pieces and decided to buy, it started. Apparently, they took me to their hearts immediately. Cookies, perfectly made frappé. Alexia, her daughter Eveline and her husband Manolis spoiled me. Then Manolis suddenly appeared with a huge bag full of herbs for tea and seasoning. Searched and dried by themselves. All are now friends on Facebook and tomorrow I will be there again. Because, they want to draw me some sights on my map, invite me for coffee. They find me find me and my happy attitude mega and have offered me that I can contact them at any time if I need something. Most of all Manolis wanted to visit the 3 monasteries with me. But he has to work. What an unexpected cordiality and almost feels like I have a Greek family. Wow. A very touching meeting.
Afterwards I walked back to the hostel. Or better said I thought so. At least the map app showed me that. But as the duration became more and more, this seemed very strange to me and the heat was too much. Therefore, I stood on the street and tried to get a cab. No chance. All occupied... Hmm. Strange. So I had no choice but to walk back. 30 minutes! Then I found the cab station and the driver explained that many flights had landed so it was very difficult at this time. I don't care. The main thing is that I don't have to take another step with my purchases and the big bag of herbs! Smile.
Arrived I asked about the payment. Everything was okay. Was a mistake. And then I immediately exchanged business cards with the new receptionist and waitress from the internal cafe and looked at her paintings online. She also paints.
Short change of clothes and off to the restaurant. Actually I wanted to go back to the city to eat there at the sea. But my walk gave me the rest and I did not want to go so far away from the hostel again. So I ate nearby. The ambience is not really worth mentioning, but the food is very tasty. Now I feel arrived in my beloved Greece. Hmmm.... I feel really good. Good night.
