Seacht: Five months in Ireland

Veröffentlicht: 05.02.2021

hey everyone,

today marks five months since I arrived in Ireland. Which sounds like such a long time but it honestly didn't feel like that.
By now my flight back home is only 113 days away and I already know time will go by very fast.

So here's a little recap of what happened over the last few weeks.

the first week

At this point I don't really know what I should write about, because nothing happened.
In the first week of january the government decided that schools will stay closed. At this point they were only talking about january, but now when I'm writing this they are talking about keeping them closed until at least march.
So that was a great start for january.
We actually had a bit of snow in this week which was definitely the highlght, even though it didn't stay very long.

In this week we also started online school which was quite interesting because it's so different to what I knew from Germany.

And the gifts my parents sent me for christmas finally arrived. It took them nearly a month longer than expected but at least everything arrived safely.

the second week

All I did in the second week was online learning to be honest. I'm starting to get used to all the tasks teachers want us to do so it's fine. And in between all the annoying tasks there actually are some nice ones, like writing a short story in eglish.
I did remeber to leave the house sometimes and not just spend all my time in my room which was good.

But other than that there really isn't much to talk about in this second week.

the third week

What a surprise but there wasn't really anything going on as well. The year is now all about making the best out of this situation, which just means trying to talk to other people over social media when you can't see them in real life.

The only good thing coming out of this week is the fact that I got back into music and quite a lot happened there. But it is nothing worth mentioning in my exchange year blog.

the last week

There is still no change to the weeks before this one. I just tried my best to text other people and stay in contact with someone considering I don't have anyone in my house I could talk to about random stuff.

Something interesting tht week was a workshop on web design and animation we did for the school. I'm not saying it was especially interesting, but it was something different.
Also I finally met up with someone again. And of course we followed all the guidelines and it was just nice to see someone again.

in conclusion

January definitely was one of the most uneventful months I've had here. But it's fine. When I decided to do my exchange in the middle of a pandemic I couldn't expect anything else.

But I have to be honest I thought I would feel worse staying at home for such a long time, considering that I don't really have anyone here. It's quite the opposite actually. Compared to december I'm actually feeling pretty good.
Because I just talk to people over social media so I have quite a few conversations going on.

And staying at home the entire day gives me the chance to do my tasks whenever I feel like doing them and not when I have to. Also I have a lot of time to actually do things I enjoy. So things are going alright.
I'm not saying I'm not sad that I won't be able to do more interesting stuff, but I can't change anything anyway so I'll have to live with it and make the best of it.

I already metioned it at the start, right now no one is really sure when we will be going back to school. And even if schools open at some point, TY students will probably be the last ones to get back to school. So it will still be a while.

I had a nice day today because my class decided that we wanted to do a Google meet to catch up again. And it ended with us watching the Where We Are movie. And I had a lot of fun. In times of covid this is the only way to do something with others.

But I'm hoping there will be more interesting stuff happening soon.

Until next time,

Slán,
