Walvis Bay: 17-21 degrees, first foggy then sunny

The morning started with a lot of excitement on the ship, as some fellow travelers had not received their visas. Fortunately, we two lucky ones had our visas and could look forward to the day with relaxation. Our face-to-face inspection was at 10:30 AM, stamp in the passport, and off we went. We started our 45-minute drive along the Atlantic coast, which began at the pier of Walvis Bay. The route offered views of the ocean and the arid landscape and got us in the mood for our adventure. Upon arrival in Swakopmund, we were greeted by a town with German colonial architecture that provided a glimpse into Namibia's past. Then it was time for a culinary treat. At the Strandhotel Swakopmund, we enjoyed a tasting of craft beers, brewed fresh here, at Brewer & Butcher. We also savored a portion of biltong (a traditional Namibian dried meat) and droewors (a type of dried sausage), both perfect companions to the beers. Afterward, we had time to stroll through the city at our own pace. The picturesque streets of Swakopmund contrast with the vast desert landscapes surrounding the town. Afterward, we returned to Walvis Bay where we visited the local market, which offered beautiful carvings as well as local jewelry for sale. Another exciting day came to an end, and now we have 7 sea days until we arrive in Senegal on Saturday, April 26.
