Dakar Senegal: foggy/sunny 24 degrees
Arrival at the port at 7:30 AM in foggy weather. At 9:15 AM we started our city tour through Dakar. It took us past the central hub, the Independence Square, and along Avenue Leopold Senghor into the business district, where hundreds of street vendors sold their goods. Our trip continued to another market where mainly sheep were sold. We walked to the beach and were shocked at how dirty it was there, trash everywhere, we saw dogs and sheep eating plastic. The sight and smell were disgusting; we had never seen such a 'dirty' city. Yes, those impressions are also part of a world trip; not everything can be perfect. We then went to the Maison de la Culture where they performed traditional dances. Our next stop was the Monument de la Renaissance Africaine, the 52-meter high bronze statue that was erected in 2010. Afterwards, we visited a sand painting gallery where we admired examples of Senegal's most popular art form. It was fascinating to watch these artists create a sand picture using only sand from Senegal, with motifs depicting daily life. After so many impressions, we gladly returned to the ship. Now we have 2 sea days until we arrive in Fuerteventura.
