Etosha Part. II

Once again, the alarm goes off at 5:30 AM today ⏰️ 

Yes, even the fishermen can rise early, although not all do so without loud protests. 

This makes us one of the first in line at the Anderson Gate, entering the Etosha National Park.

Passing numerous springboks, zebras, kudus, and impalas, we are rewarded at the first waterhole. 

A duo of two young lions 🦁 is just making its way to drink. We spot the proud hunters from a distance until they are only about 30 meters away from us. They drink extensively before lazily lying down. Two brave giraffes join them a little later. It's amusing how the long-necked ones drink 🦒

Along the Etosha pan, we can observe huge herds of hoofed animals and travel kilometers upon kilometers down. By now, the sun is at its zenith, and the chances of discovering another one of the Big 5 diminish minute by minute. 

At lunchtime, we come across a few elephants, and just before the end, we are fortunate to spot six sleeping lionesses quite close to the road. The meal they had before still lies within reach. 

After almost 8 hours and about 250 kilometers, we reach the Lindequist Gate and arrive at the Emanya@Etosha Lodge, our penultimate accommodation, about 15 minutes later.

A quick lounge by the pool and enjoying a cocktail 🍸 before a 5-course meal awaits us this evening 😋
