Verdun sur le Doubs to Abergement-la-Ronce

Abergement-la-Ronce, a small village on the Canal du Rhône au Rhin. After Lock 73, there is a landing spot. Even though we were on schedule and the stop was planned, when we arrived, there were already 2 other boats there. Although the landing area is large enough for 3 boats of our size, there was no room left.

My first officer spoke with our future neighbors, and after a brief conversation, the spot was made available for us.

We docked and prepared for the evening; no excursion was planned, as we had bought food the day before, we just wanted to take the journey along the canal at a leisurely pace.

The two ships in front of us departed one after the other; their next port is Dole, which is also our next port. Perhaps we just wanted to linger a bit before we plunge into the lock adventure.

On the way there, we passed through the two towns of Seurre and Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Both are certainly worth a short stop; our plan next includes Dole as a destination for an excursion.

For all boaters, there is a larger harbor in Saint-Jean-de-Losne. From there, tours with rental boats start, and many Northerners and Swiss have their ships docked there. It’s only a few kilometers to Switzerland, which we can confirm; a region like the Saône is hard to come by in the latitudes we are from. We met some boaters from the local area, and you can clearly see their love for the region.

From our perspective, it’s a pity that the access is a bit cumbersome for us. But we do have a northern tip😊
