We aimed to dock in our home port around 2:00-3:00 PM.
On our final leg, we were also joined by my two grandchildren, who took part in the journey. As I warned them, it was terribly boring.
My first officer had decorated the ship the day before, and of course, we were as proud as can be, having completed a journey that few undertake. Many impressions came to mind, and there was a bit of nostalgia as well.
On that day, my first officer took the helm, allowing me to focus on the younger generation. The time had to be filled somehow. To wrap up, we had something to eat in the harbor, and the swim trunks could finally be unpacked, so the boredom quickly faded away.
Our club members were numerous at the northern tip despite the Kandel festival the night before.
We directly entered the Old Rhine and enjoyed the final kilometers.
That evening, the cheers for Gustav echoed long in Kandel.
At this point, I will take a brief farewell, even though no destination has yet been set for next year, there will surely be a journey.
I wish everyone always a hand's breadth of water under the keel, and hopefully, those who don't sail found it enjoyable too.
