Sun, beach, and sea in Mwazaro

We have fully arrived in the relaxed coastal town of Mwazaro and are living by the mentality of 'pole pole' - everything is very laid-back and calm. Even writing this blog felt like too much work :)

Let's rewind a few days: Mombasa immediately appealed to us more than Nairobi. It's a bit more relaxed, with charming streets that remind us of past (colonial) times, and very warm-hearted people. One of them was our tour guide, who took us through Old Town and Fort Jesus (built by the Portuguese) for 4 hours.

In the afternoon, we drove down the coast - we are spending the last 7 days at the beach here. The Mwazaro Beach Lodge is beautifully situated, and we are enjoying the water, the good food, and the friendly people. The place is especially a good spot for (German) kite surfers. Even though we don't kite, we are warmly welcomed into the group (at least we are German;)).

Of course, we don't just stay by the pool/sea but also take trips to the small village for a haircut, explore the mangroves, visit the slave caves of Shimoni, or go snorkeling in a marine park.

On Monday, we're heading back to Mombasa and on Tuesday onwards to Nairobi to the airport. Three weeks go by so quickly, but we are also very much looking forward to family and friends :)
