Dear fellow travelers!
After unfortunately being without any network for a few days, I am now writing a summary here while sitting in a café in Lüderitz:
On the 24th, we set off for the Fish River Canyon. It is one of the largest canyons in the world. Upon arrival, we are surprised that so few people want to visit this unique natural phenomenon. When we see the prices at the campsite at the entrance of the canyon park, it becomes clear to us that this might be the reason. We pay €40 for the campsite (a horrendous price for this place) and another €20 entrance to the park - the tourists here are also saving money 😁
Before sunset, we drive the atrocious road to the canyon, which has some viewpoints where one can see into the canyon. The view is gigantic. We enjoy a sunset drink and the beautiful sunset in this lovely natural setting, which is very hard to capture in a photo.
Early in the morning we leave the Fish River and drive 400 km on secondary roads through the Namib Desert and a mountainous part of it towards Aus (the place is really called that!).
This drive is one of the most beautiful we have ever experienced. The Namib in its most beautiful colors, with table mountains and rugged mountain ridges in between. We drive near the South African border, and suddenly the road switches to asphalt! We are astonished! In the middle of nowhere appears a vineyard! What can I say - a gigantic wine plantation, and at its edge one of the worst slums we have ever seen. The workers live here with their families! No wonder the wine is so cheap here! We are appalled! We have never seen anything like this in Namibia!
