The cheetah says bye bye

We are now sitting in a landscape very similar to home - in a vineyard.

This morning we said goodbye to our travel partners because they want to drive straight to Windhoek, while we prefer to take it a bit easier. Our flight is on Wednesday afternoon, and we are not in a hurry. So at 8 am, we hit the gravel road leading out of the Khaudum and continue 160 km through the typical Kalahari landscape after the gate. No cars in sight...

Suddenly, we see something sitting or standing far ahead on the straight road. We think it’s a donkey, but as we get closer, we see that it’s a cheetah! We stop, and the cheetah slowly disappears into the bushes. I just manage to snap a photo with my big camera - then it’s gone. We are very happy that we have seen such a rare animal, after so many unsuccessful game drives in the Khaudum. I’m thrilled that after several days without network, I’ve found a phone signal again. Today, I can feed the blog!

We drive about halfway to Windhoek (350 km) and arrive in the afternoon at a small vineyard with a few camping sites. Not only is it very beautiful here, but we also enjoy a nice place and a warm welcome. We buy a bottle of red wine, then cook a curry with couscous from the leftovers of yesterday's barbecue and the existing vegetables, and thus we celebrate Easter Sunday!
