April 18th and 19th
These are our last two days in the “bush.” We expected to see quite a few animals here, but due to the heavy rain, there are puddles everywhere, and the animals find no need to come to the waterhole for a drink, thus they remain in the forest and bushes. During our drives along the river, which has some water, we see exactly two elephants, one of which approaches us rather threateningly and waves its ears wildly - a sign of aggression. We put the car in reverse to be able to escape if necessary, but the large male solitary elephant with mighty tusks eventually retreats into the bushes. The second elephant crosses our path only briefly and then becomes invisible in the thicket. It’s incredible - these giant creatures only need to take a few steps into the bushes and become completely invisible.
We also sight a few large antelopes (horse antelopes) and one tiny one, but that’s about it. The waterholes remain picturesque but deserted.
So tomorrow we will leave this camp and head towards Windhoek. It will take us two days to get there, as it is 800 km away, partly on gravel roads, which means on dirt or dusty roads.

Man hört vor allem Vögel mit ihren zum Teil sehr lauten Rufen. In der Nacht auch hin und wieder Hyänen. Leider diesmal keine Löwen, was wir bei unseren beiden anderen Afrika-Reisen sehr wohl hatten. Affen sind abends und am frühen Morgen oft auch recht laut!

Jetzt hatte ich einige deja vus an unsere vergangenen Reisen in Namibia, Botswana und Simbabwe-nur eben ohne Regen im afrikanischen Winter.
