Mount Earnslaw

Perhaps the highlight of my trip to New Zealand, definitely the most beautiful thing I've seen so far. Together with Niklas, Noah, and Lennard, I tackled the Mount Earnslaw hike. With a total distance of 27km round trip, a pure hiking time of 9.5 hours, and 1400 meters of elevation gain, it was not only the longest but also the most strenuous hike to date.

We started at 8 AM, initially walking through forests and fields, always alongside a river. It was a continuous uphill journey. Over and under tree trunks, through small streams, basically over hill and dale. This made the hike very varied and exciting in terms of nature. After nearly 9 km, we exited the woods and continued for another 4 km along the river to the foot of the glacier. It was not only fantastic and impressively beautiful, but also exceedingly harmonious, calm, and peaceful.

Upon arrival, we bathed in the river and relaxed for almost 2 hours before heading back the 13 km. A fantastic hike without much tourism and an absolute must!
